IMAGES OF BALL COMPANIES????
« on: March 17, 2005, 12:09:14 AM »
I feel that the ball companies have a preconceived image in our minds that cause us, or prevent us from purchasing their products.  I will share what I mean and perhaps you can chime in.

AMF - 50-60's era.  Never really came into the modern era.  When i see one throwing AMF i think, buy they are old school.

Brunswick - The IBM of the bowling world.  Big brother that pushes others around with it weight and influence.  When it wants to they can dominate the market. Certain bowlers will never throw Big B becasue its like a Flower Child having to wear i tie.  They just can't go there.

Columbia - If Brunswick is IBM, Columbia is Apple.  At one time was the true bowlers company but not anymore.  They still are in search of that Yellow Dot Bleeder for today to get them back on top and they keep producing tons of balls hoping one will be the magic bullet.

Ebonite - If Brunswick is IBM, Columbia is Apple, Ebonite is a company that is close in relation to AMF.  Loyalist from long ago but not the ball of choice for most bowlers today.  I personnaly still like Ebonite.

Storm - Young Guns ball of choice.  I know guys who will not throw anything but Storm, no matter how bad or good it may be.  Crankers, Bankers company.  If i go to buy a Storm Ball they I.D. and tell me I am to old, they wont sell it to me.

etc etc etc - you get the idea... your thoughts

I will agree, we have our preconceived notions of all the companies. I will also agree with most of the original post as to companies and the way we "see" them.
I am a Storm guy, not the poster child for them, just someone who likes the reaction I get with most of what I have. I will also say, that a lot of folks (even if they will never admit it) do have a ball, somewhere, from a company they say they'll never use. But when the stuff is right, they pull it out and move on. I think we all have something like that, a ball, no matter who makes it, that we just "can't do without" for whatever reason.
I'm NOT a fan of Columbia, don't care for the line, as it is today...however..I have a WD, will always probably have one and when I need to go 1,000% down a board with no movement, that's the ball I can do it with. My wife is an Ebonite fan, but she also has a WD, and also does not care for Columbia, so I guess it's not just me, but then maybe it's a family thing ?

my 2 cents were up a long time ago.
