Bad experience with fed ex?
« on: February 17, 2004, 01:23:42 AM »
Hello all, Well here is my story. I bought a used ball from the-7-year-itch. It was a 15lb phenom. I have purchased from this person before and got a great ball and they have a good rep on this sight. I payed them via paypal on a sunday and they shipped the ball the next monday 2/9. they were shipping from Mississippi to Kentucky. They sent me the tracking number and everything was going great. I checked fedex sight and they said it would be delivered 2/11. Great ready to play with my new ball. Well 2/11 came and went with no ball. Waited another day then called fedex because the ball had be sent to Alabama from Tennessee. They said it could take up to 5 days for dround shipment. Well to make a long story short the ball went from Mississppi to Memphis Tenn to Nashville Tenn. to birmingham alabama back to memhis then to me here in Kentucky. Delivered on 2/17. I get the ball out of the boxes(double boxed) when I get home and am inspecting it and discover what looks to be hairline cracks above the pin circling up towards the finger holes. Needless to say I am not happy. I have contacted the seller and let them know the ball is damaged but my question to everyone here is has anyone else had this happen and if so how hard is it to file a claim and get reimbursed. With the route it took to get here and the length of time it could have been dropped or been setting in the cold along time. If anyone else has had to file a claim please let me know what I need to do or does the person who shipped the ball have to take care of it? Any help is appreciated as always.

Thanks, cooksey

I had a similar experience but thankfully I ordered a NIB ball from buddies.

I order a Ebonite Shamrock and it arrived with a dime sized chip in it.  The box looked like it had been speared with something sharp a couple of times.  90% of the time UPS is great but not this time.  I have never used fed ex but either one has got to be better than the USPS.

I cannot speak for FedEx, but my experience with UPS was that the shipper has to file the claim, and payment is made to the claimant who then has to disburse the funds.

My non-bowling experience with such a matter was with Sherwood-Newcastle on a stereo receiver that they did a calltag on (warranty work)...found out the hard way that I did not retain shipper status when it was picked up on a call tag and even worse was that the company had not insured the receiver (when I sent it the first time, it was insured).

As a former Fedex employee, I'm kind of confused. If I read your post correctly, your ball was shipped on 2/9 and scheduled for delivery on 2/11. If so, whoever paid for shipping is entitled to their shipping costs back. The ball wasn't delivered on time. With that being the case, it would be an easy argument for a damage claim if the ball had bounced all over the place for 5 or 6 extra days. Fedex is a very customer friendly business and you shouldn't have too many problems filing a claim. All shipments go through either Memphis or Indianapolis for sorting before being shipped anywhere in the world, so that's why it went to Memphis before coming to you.

Oh, I forgot to ask if there was a problem with your address. That's the only thing that I could think of that would cause a delay in delivery like that. I was a courier and handled some management duties at Fedex for 6 years, so I saw a lot of different scenarios.

No I called them and they verified the address. So that wasn't an issue.

If it was shipped fedex ground, sometimes there can be seemingly uncalled for delays. I had a ball shipped here, and it sat for two or three days a few miles away. I was told it was because they work Tues-Sat at Fed Ex ground, and that didn't "sync" up with their deliveries.
As far as covering the damage, FedEx Ground has been excellent when my hubby deals with them. Far easier to work with than UPS, and WAAAAAAAAY better than the USPS.

As an aside - did you know that the USPS won't refund postage when they damage an insured item? "After all, we delivered it, didn't we?" Is what we hear. Ridiculous!

Dont feel bad Fedex says my house does not exist.  They tried to ship a cell phone to my house 3 times. Finally we had to have UPS ship it(got here the first time).

Thanks for all the replies guys. Talked to the seller and he is going to talk to fedex tomorrow and see what he needs to do. I also called them and they are supposed to come get the ball tomorrow and take it for inspection. They probably wont even know what they are looking for lol. Guess it is just a wait and see situation. I will update everyone on how good fedex is though. I do want to commend Kris though he is doing everything he can to help me rectify the situation. He is a stand up guy and I wouldn't think twice from buying from him again.

Thanks, cooksey
