Improving this site.
« on: November 30, 2003, 07:53:53 PM »
Since Bruce seems ambivalent to moderating this site, I would recommend emailing all of the site sponsors and letting them know what a poor reflection the site is on their company.

I really don't see the site as a poor reflection to anyone, except a few asses that just want attention. If we start complaining about the site, the only thing that's gonna happen is Bruce will take it down and it will be gone. I, for one, do not want to see this happen. Although If he is looking for help to moderate the site, I have plenty of free time on my hands and would love to remove some of stupider posts that pop up.

I actually e-mailed him regarding this very thing and he replied quickly, telling me that he had removed two members that were responsible for some garbage posts.  I don't think it's too much to ask that there at least be some effort to keep the site 'clean'.  I think most of us would enjoy the site more if that were the case.  It would be great if he could rely upon some members to help out with that.

Do you think that turning Bruce's sponsor's against him and removing the funding for ballreviews will help the situation?????

It appears that the site is being puposely sabotaged to me. Especially when the reviews are being trashed as they are. Urethane, I also hve to disagree with your idea concerning the sponsers. Moderation is required and quick, or like it or not, this site is history. This is a real shame.

CS, since sabotage was mentioned, it was probably not the wisest thing to do to reply as you did.

It does look suspicious all the advertiser posters we have had as of late.  Seems everyone is trying to get us to their website.  Maybe some have them have decided that by hook or by crook.

The situation is sad though.  If only Scott hadn't let a few make him give up on the whole thing.  I think we are starting to see that some moderation would not be a bad thing.

Wrong side what are you suggesting.  I do not think that urethane game is Steve Smith if that was your intention.

I'll assume you include me in this group since I have a site too.

Honestly, I come here because this is where the Dyno-thane forum is. I'll stumble in the Misc Forum just to see what's going on.  I very rarely make a post with a "come to my site" comment, unless there is a reason.  I don't like cross spamming and I don't like sigs with ads in them.  Mine has my URL and that is it.  No different than having my e-mail there.

The noise on this site is a direct reflection of its success. I've had a few trouble makers io my site too, they are easy to deal with.  But it's no different than walking down the street... every now and then you'll run into an idiot.

hehe

By the way, check out my site!  You COULD be a millionaire!

Doh!

The clowns come and the clowns go.Once they stop getting a response they fade away.
I do find the new trend of cloning a respected poster's name and posting inane nonsense as that person a little disturbing.
To call out the sponsors because you don't like what you read is a little over the top.I,personally, don't care for posts done in alias using poor grammer or fake accents so I simply don't read them.If their intent is to draw attention it's lost on me.
I vote for freedom of the keyboard and mouse. The rest will sort itself out.

I am going to respond to Tony's post not for his benefit as I have personally dealt responded to him as he deserved.  I should have come right out and said what I meant not generalized and playing it safe.  Card playing safe who would have thought.  Now to try to explain what I was talking about

What I was talking about is the new influx of webmasters that have been posting things such as how is it going and junk like that just trying to get us to look at there fifty foot tall signature line.

People who have been asking us to come join their board and let us know what we think stuff like that.  I guess to me it would be like me buying a bowling center and then going into the other local bowling centers and walking around to people in there and saying hey will you come to my center just to see what mine is or putting a huge billboard in the bed of my truck and parking it in their lot.  While none of it is illegal it is in fact bad taste.

I called a couple people on what I thought was not great taste, but hey who am I.  Do whatever you all want.  For everyones info though I personally have no problem with Tony and I don't think what he does is in bad taste it wasn't what I meant.  In retro spective.  I should have kept my mouth shut.  It is not my job to judge.  I was attempting to give opinion, but I think it all has come out judgemental.

Funny thing is I've seen these "ads incognito" by the same guys in other forums I participate in.

Of course it's in bad taste.  But these guys are not the real culprit behind the angst we are all feeling.  The problem is in the lack of expert moderating in the forums and in the reviews.

If only I could win the lotto... I could afford to quit my day job and build my site to the glory I know it can be.  It would take me about a year, but I KNOW I could OWN the online bowling world.  Someone got a cool million to drop on a mess'kin?

Today, bowling websites!  Tomorrow... the WORLD!!!
