increased lineage, will it ever stop?
« on: August 12, 2016, 01:16:44 PM »
I was informed yesterday that Bowlmor increased the lineage again, I don't know how much more, but every year it's increasing more and more. While privately own houses in the area are significantly lower. (I think steve cooks Fireside lanes is the lowest around town from what I heard).

Somehow the league was able to keep weekly fees at $20, but you know what that means..... I want to suggest we move to another house in our next meeting for the 2017-2018 season. But, with these OG's who are attached to this 50 plus year old house, I doubt they will agree.

Does a round object have sides? I say yes, pizza has triangles..

Most bowling centers should keep increasing the lineage to stay on top of costs encountered during the year.  Some companies do this and it helps maintain some level of capital to offset costs of maintenance and periodic upgrading.

Unfortunately, many privately owned centers keep their costs at levels perhaps lower than what they should be to stay competitive.  One of the reasons I think many centers close is the inability to stay up-to-date.  Costs to add new scoring is very high.  Going to synthetics versus wood is very high.  Adding new ball returns, settee areas, concourse and snack bar/bar areas are very high.  Unfortunately, many houses I have been around stayed in the era they were built and the owner had no way of upgrading.

Not saying I like paying more.  But I am lucky in that my BowlMor house is constantly updating the center to stay relevant with different demographics.  And because of that, I am willing to give a little more.  Some of the private centers in the area haven't changed since the mid-nineties.

I know what you mean.  I bowl in a senior league with at least 30 teams of four each.  We bowl in a bowlmor house that is not being kept up very well.  Some of the seats at the scorers table are missing, some of the other seats are loose and there are anywhere from one to two pairs of lanes that break down each week.  The shot (if you want to call it that) is always changing so you never know what balls you'll need.  Nothing ever seems to get fixed yet the price keeps going up.  If you even mention moving to another house (one is about 3-4 miles south and is much better maintained) you get nowhere.  It's either grin and bear it or just quit bowling in that particular league.

Price increases won't stop until inflation does, and it never will.  When I started bowling in 1962 games were $.35 each or 3 for a dollar.  In the summer the center had a special - rent a lane for $! an hour.  They've gone up steadily since.  --  JohnP

The price per game is what makes practice expensive. At least the league is weekly.
That makes bowling buddy from eilenn so useful. I hope to get the two

We are at $27.00. Lineage is $13.75 of it. Just wait tell they expect the proprietors to operate on solar power. That's when I will take up wood carving.
