Just wondering how most of you increase the speed of the ball?
1- Holding the ball higher at the start
2- Walking faster
3- Higher backswing
4- Muscleing the ball
5- Lofting the ball
6- Any other way

1- Holding the ball higher at the start
Has worked for many people.

2- Walking faster
When you do it with longer steps, yes, it also works for many people.

3- Higher backswing
If it's part of 1 and/or 2 above, yes, it can work.

4- Muscleing the ball
used by many people but not a good way to do it. The amount of muscle varies with how you feel and many other factors. It is an inconsistent way and most coaches frown on excess use of mescles.

5- Lofting the ball
It reduces hook. It is not a way to get extra speed. It may be an undesireable side result of muscled extra speed.

6- Any other way

- use a lighter ball.
- learn a cleaner thumb release.
That's about all I can think of right now.

From the fall issue of USBowler
1)Lower the ball, scoot back a few steps and take quicker strides.
Works for 75-80% of bowlers whose arm swings are already as fast as they can be.
2)Raise the ball, scoot back a few steps and take longer strides.
Works for 20-25% of bowlers whose arm swings are loose and relaxed.
