Indianapolis area bowling centers
« on: November 25, 2007, 07:46:11 AM »
I'll be in the north Indianapolis area for work next week and I'll be bringing my bowling equipment with me.  Please let me know some suggestions (and locations) of bowling centers in the Indy area.  If anybody is interested in bowling a few, I'll definitely be up for it on Sunday, December 2nd, as I will have a day off then.  Please let me know.

Many of the Indy centers are part of a chain called Royal pin:

Woodland regular hosts PBA tourny's including the World Championship this year.

Expo is a very nice center.  Southern is obviously south of Indy, and is a pretty decent center as well.  Actually, all the Royal pin centers are pretty good.  Expo however does put out a fresh shot every morning, so if that's something your seeking.

So does Western. Western is probably the biggest hooking royal pin center. Woodland has changed their shot up alot and has been actually putting some oil down on the lanes. Expo is fairly heavy in oil. You might want to bring a heavy oil ball if you are looking to go there.

Sport Bowl is the hardest of all the Royal Pin centers.

In fact, an elderly man was complaining to Dave (head mechanic) and I about it.  He said "I look in the paper every day and see 700s at Expo and 700s at Southern, 650s by the women at both places.  But then I see sport bowl; 550, 500, women only shooting 450.  Ten pin, ten pin, ten pin.  That's all you see here."

Evidently, if you want to practice ten pins, come to Sport Bowl.  Honestly, I don't think it's that hard there, though.

Headed up to that area for JOG a few years ago.  Expo is the coolest as far as the centers go, but Woodland is awesome in the fact that it's 80 lanes straight across.  Western was probably the least memorable of the 3 houses we threw at.

Thanks guys for the information.  I'll check out Woodland, as it will be close to where I'll be staying.  Anyone interested in bowling a few games on Sunday morning (Dec 4th)?  Let me know.  Bump.
