Well, it would be a guy on the PBA.  I think Walter Ray is, but there are a couple others that deserve honorable mention.  Steve Jaros, even though he has fewer titles, he's one of the most versatile bowlers you'll ever see.  So much can be done with his simple game that I like it the best of anyone on tour.  Mika Koivuniemi is INCREDIBLE.  If I was a successful touring pro, he'd be one of the few that would still make me nervous.  Pete Weber is another to consider given his immense level of talent and FEEL for the game.  What's more is that he knows how to WIN, and you know he's always giving as much as he can.  As well as Tim Mack has done internationally and with all the success he's had, he still has yet to make a telecast.  He was considered one of the best, if not THE best "amateur" in the world, and hasn't broken through the PBA ranks yet.  Does that discredit him?  Not in the least.  It just shows how high the skill level of the PBA pros is.

Unless of course you wanted to know the best bowler in the world ASIDE from the PBA pros, or excluding them.  Then I'd have no idea, I don't really follow international or amateur stuff.

Then name you are probably thinking of would be Kimmo Lehtonen out of Finland.

walter ray, weber, and mika are obviously at the very top...but i think tim mack over the last bunch of years has been just as successful overseas as the main touring pros have been here.  my driller knows tim, and has told me stories of mack's struggles this season, and i think he is not accustomed yet to the style of bowling on the tour.  as far as i know, at most of the overseas tournaments, mack was able to compete with only a few balls.  he only had about 5 or 6 with him, because traveling restricted him of the amount of equipment.  basically, he just adjusted with what he had, and was still able to win.  he rarely changed balls or threw anything new.  on the pba tour, as just about everyone is aware of today, bowlers can drill up more than 10 or 15 balls within a 4 day period, sometimes having the same ball drilled 4 or 5 different ways.  they create a perfect matchup for the lane condition, and execution becomes alot easier.  macks struggles result from the fact that he isnt accustomed to the idea of constantly changing balls and drillings every 9 games to adjust to the condition.  thats why hes had excellent DAYS of tournaments, and mixed them around with average or less than average performances.  he is an excellent bowler, but i think he has proven this year that bowling around the world is a completely different game.  if he had been on tour for 5 or 10 years already, he would definitely be among walter ray and weber today.

Take the best bowler in a Super Series tournament (biggest amateur tour in northern Europe) and multiply by 50-80 and you have the PBA. It's not my opinion. It's what Tore Torgersen says in a recent interview on the website of the Swedish Bowling Federation.
