Annika Sorenstam Fallout.....
« on: May 27, 2003, 03:35:46 PM »
Now that Annika has tried to crack the PGA tour, is there going to be a tour promoter willing to give, say, a LeeAnn Barrett an exemption to compete somewhere soon? Other than power, can females compete with men?

At least for the time being, the issue of any PWBA members competing in a PBA event is relatively moot.  The PBA has a rule regarding gender of members, and even though the PBA does not do exemptions like golf, I would imagine that those same rules would apply to qualifiers of the local spots given to the proprietors.  Some of the PWBA members do compete in the ABC Masters and have gone into the match play elimination rounds.

I guess if bowling were a higher profile/more televised sport then the Martha Burks of the world would be camping out at bowling houses, putting pressure on the PBA against such rules. But since the TV cameras rarely show up, neither will she.

How do you think the top female would fare against the men?

Anyone can beat anyone one game. I think the women are better at accuracy, but the men have more power (generally speaking). So it would depend on the condition, and the format...
Just like any other tournament, the one who matches up best on the condition, and does the best with the format, will win.

AND (added on edit)-
I really hope that the men DON'T invite the women. The PWBA tournaments are hurting enough for entries and cash - if the top players start competing with the PBA, there goes women's bowling for the rest of us...
