What's wrong with me?
« on: August 04, 2009, 03:57:19 AM »
First night of fall leagues starts next Thursday for me.  Haven't so much as picked up a ball since May except moving them around at home.  This is the first time I've been excited for the start of a year in a long time.  Still bowling handicap leagues on a house shot, so not as excited as I could be, but I guess I can still try to be one of the best in the city, even if that's not saying much.  Getting a new ball Friday too . . but the problem is that I've had a couple slow weeks at work, and the local house that I'll be bowling league at has a special from 11am to 2pm every day of the week.  Lunch and all you can bowl for the three hours, and it's only 11 bucks.  I just can't get myself out to practice.  If I went everyday for two weeks, I could get a thousand bucks worth of practice in for a hundred, and right before the season starts no less.  Excited for league, I just really don't want to go practice.  Anybody have a clue what my problem is?  Happened to anybody else?

I've felt the same way some years when I didn't bowl summer league. I can't tell you why.

For me, if I can get myself to go bowl once before the season starts that's all it takes. Once I get back on the lanes I usually have no problem going back again. I just need the motivation to get out and do it that first time. Take a team member with you, having someone to go with never hurts either.

I went today for the 1st time since leagues ended.  Yeah, I kept thinking about it all summer, but never followed through.  It took my daughter's friend's mom to say she was taking her gang up to the new Pinstripes out here for me to do it.  $14 for 2 hours of bowling, ($7 for each of my kids & I was free) shoes rental, socks, all they could eat fruit (watermellon, canteloupe & pineapple), drinks, coffee for me, 1 sundae or rootbeer float for kids, & 1 glass of wine for me.  All that for $14.  Can't beat that.  Took us to MacD's for lunch & spent $16. I threw 177, 184 & 189.  Not bad for just picking up the ball again.  I used my X-Factor purchased from Jeff Carter Charity & my spare ball.  Kids were running up both lanes next to me & all around, bumpers going up on their lanes just as I'm throwing, LOL.  It was a challenge, but pretty fun.
