Change in track - what does it mean?
« on: March 18, 2010, 12:38:01 PM »
I recently stopped using a Brunswick  PowrKoil wrist device after using it for the last year. I know there's a lot of debate about these things, but that's not what I'm after here. However, I noticed my ball's Track  has changed since I stopped using it.

With the wrist device I was tracking very high. The lines were mostly straight... not the bow ties that you see in pictures.

Now that I'm not using it my ball is tracking low and I get the bow ties. I'm not sure what it means about the way I'm throwing the ball or how they are drilled. But I'm very happy without the device.

Any insight is much appreciated.

Potentially, you break back your wrist (more) without the brace, or simply top the ball. This can lower your track/raise the PAP - and changes the relative drilling of the ball!

Just as acvar mentioned, this can under certain cicumstances (e. g. when the ball had a leverage layout based on your higher wrist device PAP) have severe consequences on a ball's reaction and utility. What once was 4" pin to PAP with a strong reaction can become just a rolly 3" to PAP setup, which acts like an axis drilling with little back end and hitting power.

My suggestion would be to mark your PAP with tape on the ball and see how and where the core migrates to. Use a camera or have someone watch you from your non-bowling hand side, because from the player's point of view it is hard to tell what happens. But if the ball migrates towards the pin (and not the MB) without the wrist device, I'd consider a new layout, based on your new PAP.

It happens, just be prepared that it holds some unwelcome surprises in store
