It kinda depends on the length of the pattern. To achieve the same exit point of a 40 foot pattern, the difference is 2:1. So for every 2 boards you move with your feet, you will need to move your mark 1 board.
Longer patterns will have a smaller ratio (but not noticeably much) and shorter patterns will have a larger ratio (again, not noticeably much).
Another issue will be how you are attacking the dry. If you are attacking the dry outside of the pattern and then want to attack the dry at the end of the pattern, you could have a 1:1 ratio or less.
