Been messing with staying on the inside of the ball for a long while now, but i lose speed keeping on the inside compared to when i was behind the ball with a cupped wrist. I'm thinking about going back to keeping behind the ball to increase speed, but I'm guessing I'm going to be losing revs, anyone know how much revs I'd be losing or any other things that might change? Timing maybe?

Ball speed should be relatively the same, as it should be a force created by gravity.
For what my suggestion is worth to you:
I would see what release carries better for you, and what you are more comfortable/consistent with. Whatever you are able to score better with, stick to. Forward roll is not a bad thing.
I have way less revs than any of my teammates, but seem to carry corner pins on a more consistent basis. However, I do not get the light/mixer hits that they can.
It's a give / take, I guess.....
