Intentional Fouls

I assume there's a rule about this, but:

Is it illegal to intentionally foul after leaving a big split, allowing yourself to shoot at a full rack for your spare?

Let me get this straight...I mean unless you throw it 6 miles an hour how the hell are you going to really be able to tell if you get a split or not. Just because it goes through the nose or light and wide may not necessarily get a split. I would laugh at the person that tried that and then ended up getting all 10 to fall just to find out he just fouled. Lol.

Wow...no.

If you get rid of this rule, you make the big 4, pocket 7-10s, 8-10s, etc, obsolete. Anyone who leaves a big four standing just fouls and goes -/ instead of 62.

This rule is totally necessary.

Actually... its in the USBC rule book somewhere (too lazy, too late right now) that once the ball hits the pins that if the foul device is triggered... it doesn't matter.

Basically... fouls do not exist once the ball hits the pins

Rule 5a. Definition

A foul occurs when a part of the player’s body encroaches on or goes beyond the foul line and touches any part of the lane, equipment or building during or after a delivery. A ball is in play after a delivery until the same or another player is on the approach in position to make a succeeding delivery.

The certification and inspection committee of a local association can require that the foul line be plainly marked on the walls, posts, division boards or any other structure in a bowling center on a line with the regular foul line.

 

When a foul is recorded the delivery counts, but the player is not credited with any pins knocked down by that delivery. (See Rule 6b.)

 

NOTE:  The foul line is of infinite length including walls, flooring, posts and ball returns. A foul is not committed when foreign objects such as pens, jewelry, coins, cigarettes, etc., drop from a bowler’s pocket or fall from a person’s body or clothing. (Footwear and clothing are considered part of the body.) A player should request permission to cross the foul line to retrieve any items that have fallen beyond the foul line.

In the European Men Championship 2005, one bowler made a very bad mistake. I really don't recall his name or nationality, but couple of minutes after he rolled his 12th strike, while he was "enjoying" his triumph, he deliberately step on the foul line!

As Robadat stated above, according to the rule, either he had to step down from the approach, or some other bowler must have rolled a ball next to him to call his shot is ended. But, as you may understand, no body rolled any ball after his and he had not step down from the approach till that moment!

So, although couple of minutes had passed from his shot, it was called violation of the foul rule and he received 0 count for the last shot!

"Intentionally" 290 with 12 strikes! Nice
