put it in the dishwasher holes down on the bottom rack.. or where ever it will fit. I don't add any detergent or soap.
Turn off heated drying.  If you have the option, turn off the super heated water wash and rinse.
start it up.

That should be it.  It works great for me

you should have any problems using a liquid soap such as dawn.

All the dawn should do is break down the oil after it is extracted.

the method that J W73 presents is what I have done, with success.  However be warned that the heat could cause cracking.

A method that you could use instead:

place your ball in a bucket of warm water (say 100 degrees) that has some dawn in it.

Leave in the bucket for about 20-30 minutes.

The primary benefit is that you will have better control over the water temp and should be able to prevent cracking.

that said, I have never had a ball crack in the dishwasher but I friend of mine has.

did he have the heat dry turned on... ?i guess as a precautionary measure you should make sure the hot water coming out of your tap isnt higher than 130 deg F.. that is the high limit that i have heard.
