interchangeable soles
« on: November 15, 2004, 06:04:38 AM »
I have a question for all of you guys with shoes that have interchangeable shoes: How many of you actually change the soles/heels more than once every 2-6 months? I'll tell you, I thought that they were a very good idea and that I would benifit from them, but since I've gotten my abs' last year, I have rarely changed anything, and in fact, even with bowling in 8 different houses, with different types of approaches, have still stayed with the same sole/heel combination. So I ask you guys, how often do you find that you actually utilize this feature on shoes?

I’m the same way. Found one combination that seems to work and haven’t changed.

Off course it’s the red leather heel and #8 sole, the longest sliding standard combination that comes with the shoes.

I have the ABS shoes, as well.  Once I bought them and
set up the slide I like, I have changed soles/heals maybe
twice in 18 months.

I forgot to point out what I use, I use the Light grey smooth heel with oiled leather sole. The sole is so broken in now, i'm sure its more like the felt sole though

I'm excited, my parents are getting me a pair of Tour Deluxes for my Christmas gift (no we're not rich or something, its all I'm getting...I made a deal.)

Right now, I'm using some random brunswick shoes.  I don't think they even had a model name.  I bought them when I first started bowling last year at K-mart to the tune of...................$7!!!

Yikes.  The soles are all black and messed up from all the use (and poor quality).

I've never used the ABS shoes, but for my SST 6s, I've been able to use practically any sole, so long as I use an associated heel.

I use the #10 sole with the #1 heel. That is actually my preferred combination. However, due to my weight, the #1 heel always seems to tear away from the velcro pad.

Other than that, I like the #2 sole with the #2 heel. Again, I think my weight makes it super easy for me to slide. With Linds, I had a 2 ft slide... so, yeah.

well there have been several times that I have needed to change soles in the 2 years that I have had my SST6's but I've had to borrow, cause I was stupid and the first tournament I went to with those shoes I left the entire thing of pads at the alley.  (that turned a $130 pair of shoes into a $70 pair)  so I've just kinda had to learn to adjust or TRY to use other people's soles which they have broken in their OWN way.

I have the ABS Tour Ultras and very rarely change them even though i bowl in many different centers every month.  The ABS soles are very dissapointing to me, after i bowled one or two games with each sole they basically wore out and all slide EXACTLY THE SAME!! My old sst6's were much better in the variety of slide amounts that they had and i did change them fairly often. My friend just switched to his old sst6's after using tour ultra's for about a month and loves them.

Buy a less expensive pair of shoes with a good heel and put a Bowler's Slide Sock on the sliding shoe.  --  JohnP

I use sst 6s, and I bowl on a variety of surfaces: wood, synthetic, and pro lane.  I adjusted them only once, when I bought them, about 5 months ago.  They have become a little more slick, but still managable.  I found out, that instead of changing soles at every house, just adjust your footing.

Although I change from #8 to #6 once in a while, I rarely change the soles for that reason. However - I have been known to step in water (once), and was able to change the sole and continue on, instead of having to fret, worry, and freak out.

Also - I have found some houses that I consistently stick or slip when picking up corner pins. Quick sole change, and I'm in business on the spare shots too.

I won't ever go to something like the #2 sole - the #6 and #8 are perfect. What I've done in the past is traded guys who like the #2, and would never dream of using #8. It all works out. Also - I needed to get a new pair of shoes. What? Me break them in? Nah. Just switch sole and heel from the old pair to the new one.

lets see....i have sst 6's, and on most syn. app. i use the slickest heel which is red and number 6 sole. on some other sny, i use the red number 4 sole which is preety tacky. I cant use ruubber heel on syn, bc then i just stick.

On wood ill use the next heel up from red, its a horseshoe one but i cant think if its the red of blue one with the number 8 sole or sometimes number 6 sole too.
