Do most players use an interchangeable thumb on their spare balls also? Or do they just go with a regular thumb hole.

From what I've seen by just looking at balls on the rack, most don't. It doesn't mean it's not a good thing to do, but that's what I've observed.
Personally, I do. I like having the option of going to a larger slug size in those rare situations where I swell, and taking out tape isn't enough. It's insurance I'd rather have than not. It also provides a second slug you're comfortable with in case something happens to the slug in your primary ball. This actually happened to me a few weeks ago, and it would have been a really bad situation if I couldn't have used my spare ball slug.
So it depends on your situation. If I only bowled a handful of games a week, I might have passed on it.

I don't, Maybe I should, but I don't use IT on my spare ball.
- why I don't ...I roll over the thumb hole when I throw at spares end over end. Damage is possible.
- why I should... I use my spare ball as my strike ball at times and my thumb swells up. Just the convienence of switching IT is quicker than adding or subtracting tape.

I do, but my spare ball is also a dry lane ball. If I had one dedicated spare ball, I would not.

For my customers with the IT, most use the IT in their spare ball as well. And they all have the same reasoning: It's a great place to keep a spare slug.
