interchangeable thumbs
« on: November 15, 2008, 04:48:24 AM »
I am finally looking at getting these and I am lost as to which are good which are bad local shop has both the turbo and IT systems and just want to find one that doesnt have any issues(I hate tape so if I get my thumb drilled large I grab a little till my thumb swells or drill it tighter and cant continue to use it).

hands down the Vise IT system is better, from what i've seen with my own eyes. The Turbo system looks like it could break alot easier. I have the Vise IT, and it has given me no problems and feels solid. Besieds all that, with the Vise IT you don't have to drill a 1 1/2 inch hole. I believe there are 3 or 4 different sizes to choose from.

With the interchangeable thumbs they dont feel like they will move when thrown? also how is the wear with the IT Ive heard the sleeves wear out on the switch grip and wondered if the same was true for the IT? Thank you.

1) The interchangeable thumbs don't feel loose or wobbly or anything.  Especially with the IT system, they feel exactly like a standard thumb slug once you put your hand in the ball.
2) I had trouble with the Turbo Switch Grips breaking and being hard to install correctly so that the thumb insert actually fit the same way in all the thumbholes.  (Sometimes it sat a little high, sometimes it sat a little low in the ball, which obviously is not good!)  I switched to the Vise IT system and have had NO problems at all with it.  Easy installation, comfortable, very strong.  We had one guy on this forum recently manage to break a Vise IT, and he's the ONLY person any of us had ever heard of who has done that!

Thank you very much for all your input. The reason I ask is local shop has a resurgence and rising(one I really like) and both have the switch grip and am unsure as to if I should keep this in or convert to the IT.

I replaced the Switch Grips in all of my gear with the Vise IT because I liked it so much better, if that helps your decision any.

I have not tried the vise it but I had switch grips and I broke a couple and said I would never use them again. I would hate to have on break at a tourney and no be able to throw a ball. I think It also partially depends on your rev rate, and if you sqeeze and how much..

See that is exactly what worries me about the interchangeable stuff and with the one guy recently breaking the IT which is pretty new makes me worry same with the horror stories of switch grip however I feel it is a neccesary to change to this to give me a consistant feel.

VISE now has a reduceing sleeve that can be used to convert from the 1 1/2" hole used by the "other" company to be able to change to the "IT" from VISE.

I like the Grip Loc products myself. They are the easiest to install and the easiest to use. I have installed 100's of them with no problems or anybody contacting me about breakage...

ive got the IT in 3 of my balls and i rev it pretty hard and throw it pretty hard and not one feels lose or unstable...ive had them for about a month now and not one complaint from me. the others i have tried felt unstable and would wiggle when i threw them, so i say go with the IT

Yea, The Vise IT system I feel is the best.  You can not go wrong with it.

I'm having two balls delivered tomorrow and I think I will try out the "it". If you search "vise interchangeable thumb" you will find the vise site and they have a pretty good video explaining the whole system. I'm sold on it. What i was wondering is, on average how much are they to have installed.
The difference between Ordinary and Extraordinary is that little Extra.

I know a few locally that went to the IT from switch grip and grip lock respectively and they are raving at the IT. They both have said it was easier to install, they are much more solid and feel exactly like a regular slug, no wobble, and they both said no issues with any slipping or anything close to breaking.
