Reasons....
« on: November 17, 2008, 11:57:46 AM »
List good reason for hitting the pocket and leaving single pins.

Ex- leaving 4 pin ball is coming in to high, Right?

What would be the reason for a pocket 7,9,3,etc?

7, too light or too high, not enough angle, or too much angle. 9, too much angle or too high.   Pocket 3?

Yea last week i left a 3 pin, i have no idea how,i know it was high(almost crossover) but it didnt drop,it went way to the right but stood back up,I know the ball hit the pocket but it didnt fall.I knew once i had that shoot i knew it was going to be one of them nights. In fact it might been the 1st ever pocket 3pin shot i ever saw.

Are you a lefty?

If so, you could say a 3 pin is a light pocket hit, though I don't count anything that isn't solid enough to take the 2 pin (I'm a righty) "pocket".

If you are a righty, you didn't leave a pocket 3 pin. If you hit the pocket, the head pin takes the 2, the 2 takes the 4, the ball takes the 3, the 3 takes the 6. You could argue the 4/6 with me in some instances, because I've left tight pocket 4 pins...a lot.

But a pocket 3 pin? No such thing for a righty. Your ball didn't even take out what it was supposed to, you can't call that pocket.

If it bounced off the wall and stood back up, I'd say that pin **##$( you in the arse.

Edit to my post: if it fell over and stood back up, then yes...you left a "pocket" 3 pin. But I'd just say "I got screwed" if I were you.

heres some good ones I left on pocket hits.

Pocket 9-10 lol i think it was in 03-04  i had a string were i left a couple of these.  just crushing the pocket and leaving the 9-10 lol

Pocket 4-10 split...  The only thing i can think, is i know my ball is a bit high in the pocket, but you'd think the 10pin would be gone.

here's a good one,,, being a righty,, and leaving a pocket 6pin lol....

Or the one, i still have issues, with, is the Fast 8,, having a pocket 4-7....

The only time, i leave the fast 8 is on a high pocket hit..

In this situation, you would wait for the pinsetter to cycle, pick up your spare ball, and knock the 3 pin over.  You should be able to convert the spare by making the shot as if you were shooting for a 9 pin.

Seriously though, there is a difference between hitting the head pin and hitting the pocket, IMO.  If you leave anything on the back row, you were probably in the pocket.  If you leave the 4, 5, or 6 you were close to missing the pocket.  If you leave the 2 or 3 you missed the pocket.  Needless to say, if you missed the 1 you weren't even close.

If I remember right, a 7 pin for me (righty) means I'm a little too heavy, or high, in the pocket.  I'd guess the 10 is the same for you.

My all time favorite...a stone 8.  I believe the cause is too much power into the pocket so the ball doesn't deflect off the 5.
