Does league really matter?
« on: September 13, 2008, 01:29:10 AM »
Subject says it all, Just somewhat taking a poll here.  I ask this because, one I'm not bowling good on my league wednesday night I actually scored and bowled better on the PBA pattern last monday night. (Raven you bowled better just didn't score) Two, some folks get so worked up about how good they are and act like there in the finals in a PBA stop.  Yet never leave town to bowl in anything hard or demanding I don't get it, so how important is league?

The answer to your question is all over the place! Like so many other questions about life's aspects, the answer is: "It Depends".

It depends upon the bowler, how seriously they take bowling, the league, if it is a high money league or a social/fun league etc. etc. etc.

You can ask 1000 people and get 1001 different answers (one bowler will give two different answers!)

I guess my league would be considered a "fun league" -- with a 190+ average, that puts me in the top 10 percent -- but I take it as seriously as I can without turning into a d*ck. If you just go in there and fiddlefart around, it's passive sandbagging. I don't get as juiced up as I do for tournaments, no, but I do my best on every ball I pitch. I don't like to lose and I never leave after a bad performance thinking "it's OK."

I use my league bowling as tune up time for tournaments.  It gives me a chance twice a week to work out things that I can't work on during tournament play.  Plus, it's nice to pillage a small pile of loot at the end of every season.

Thanks to all that has replied so far, were all right it all depends on the league.  PBA guys can't take all league serious and most of us use league to get ready for upcoming tourney's.  I bowl in a handicap/man vs man type of league, point system.  I haven't matched up once yet...it's only been three weeks.  Not saying I shoul'd beat everyone I bowl.  You get beat by guys that are good/bad/ok and they think they are hot sh#t because they beat you.  I know it was because I didn't match up but still.  Just venting, Thanks for listening.

dude stop whining learn to adjust and then you will match up. you dont win the majority of the time if you are whining about not winning because you did not match up

It's their choice not to leave town to bowl on something more demanding.  Let them live in their little plastic bubble, and work on your game on both conditions you're bowling on.

For me, half the fun of bowling league is knowing which tournaments I AM leaving town for (Vegas, anyone??)

Leagues matter only as much as YOU make them. Enough said. Personally yes I do take them serious as it is a chance to put preasure on myself and to improve.

I agree 100%. Leagues matter only if you make them matter.

My thoughts on this!

Leagues are made up of TEAMS! If your TEAM doesn't care then I guess it's ok if you DON'T CARE .. however if your TEAM is trying hard and you DON'T CARE .. you're in the wrong company!

Leaving town is not easy .. finances come into play .. a lot of bowlers are lucky they have money to bowl .. leaving town to bowl can be a strain on finances!
