Interesting topic.....
« on: August 08, 2013, 08:35:43 AM »
Awhile back I watched a video on how the lanes change a balls surface every frame. I forget where I saw it but It was a very interesting article where it showed very detailed illustrations as to how the ball changes surface, albeit slight changes to the surface where it may go from a 2000 grit to maybe 3000 grit over a three game set.....with this data and understanding that this does scientifically occur, my question is this: Why cant we change the surface of a bowling after each game knowing that each time we roll our ball down the lane it does actually change the surface?...........

Wouldn't that kinda be like asking to re-oil the lanes after each game?

Balls undergo the biggest changes during the first 25 or 30 shots out of the box.  Particularly true with aggressive surface solids.  After that, the amount of change is the surface of a ball from shot to shot is miniscule compared to the change on the lane surface.  Over the course  of 50-100 games a ball surface will change quite a bit.

Please don't take this comment directly at you. This applies to all of us.

You asked for aggressive coverstocks well this is what you get.  A ball that requires alot of maintenance.

Oh and to reply to the question.

Because it takes too much time and things would get messy. Can you imagine the cleaners, sandpaper, being all over the place, if bowlers knew they could do this.

Buy three balls.  Have them in OOB condition and drilled the same.  Ta dah!  Oh, you can't throw a hook monster on burned out lanes?  So what are you going to change the surface to?  This is why people have three balls of varying strength of core, shell, and layout
Long Gone also posts the honest truth which is why i respect him. He posts these things knowing some may not like it.

The real answer to your question is that USBC rules prohibit it.  --  JohnP
