Have you ever had the good fortune of introducing others to bowling and they fall in love with the game?
I have two college kids who work for me who probably never even thought about bowling until they found out that I bowled. That seemed to peak their interest somewhat but they still didn't seem all that in to the game.
Well, about a month or so ago, during a period of bad weather (we work in the golf industry) and boredom, one of the kids went bowling one afternoon. Then another afternoon, and another, and so on. In the meantime, the other kid found out that the first one had started bowling and that was enough to get him on the lanes. Now they go bowling three or four times a week.
From that point until now, both have bombarded me with questions about how to do, what to do, what causes this or that. I'm no pro at this game, but I've helped them with what I could and that seems to be enough for them...for now anyway. I've gone bowling with one of them during this time and it seemed to have spurned his interest to learn and get better at this game even more.
Friday, we all are planning to go to the bowling center and roll a few games and both of them are planning on ordering/buying their own balls...going to order some bowling shoes through our Dexter account at work too. They've also been discussing the possibility of joining a league either this summer or next fall.
I see and hear so much talk about how bowling is losing participants and the sport is in bad shape. Why don't we take it upon ourselves to introduce more people to the sport? If each one of us made the effort to get one new bowler each year, or more if possible, the future of the sport would be very bright!
