Is 3 leagues to many?
« on: August 29, 2008, 04:11:25 AM »
I was bowling in 2 leagues this winter, Tuesday and Thursday. Just the other day I got asked to sub in a league in evansville, at the end of the night they asked me to be a full time member, I accepted. it seems now I am wondering if I can handle 3 days a week? Tuesday, Wednsday, and Thursday.

Anyone elsae bowl 3 times a week. BTW I am 22 if that matters

I used to bowl 4 between 3 days and sub on a travel league on sat. as long as you dont get worn out the more bowling the better.

I bowled 4 last winter including what was a double shift on Fridays.  At 22 you should be able to handle 3 with no problem.  Wish I could afford it.

For me it is especially at my advancing age. 3 nights in a  row is a killer.  I'd be burned out.

For those that think about bowling more than 2 leagues.....screw the extra league and get out and practice you'd probably be all the better for it.

If you have the money and time do it now, after bills and mortgage later on it will almost impossible unless you happen to be rich.

My usual Winter Leagues are four .. Mon through Thurs. This is the first season (after many/many years) that I'm dropping one of the sessions! Reason is I'm battling the GOUT .. may not sound like much but it hit me in my right foot and makes it tough to bowl! Doctor doesn't have it under control yet .. so I'm TRYING three leagues!

For a young fellow like yourself 3 leagues should be easy physically .. the thing you have to consider is EXPENSES! Leagues can be costly .. especially the first couple of weeks when they want the last two weeks prepaid/sponsor fees and sanction fees! If you can afford it .. go for it!

Physically you'll be fine. The challenge will be keeping your concentration up week after week. I went through a stretch about 2 years ago when I bowled 3 nights, and often I caught myself just going through the motions, instead of thinking about each shot. As long as you can avoid that trap you'll probably enjoy it.

Age plays no part in this equation.  In my last league, I knew a guy that was 23 at the time I couldn't bowl more than twice a week.  I also knew a guy in his late 30's that bowled 4-5 days a week.

Last year at the age of 22 i did 3 leagues and found myself still going out to the lanes atleast one other day a week to practice.  Physically, 3 leagues was easy and as long as you don't get to the point where you just go through the motions, your bowling will improve.  I had my best year last year and this year i upped it to 4 leagues a night.  Good luck with it.

Three nights a week shouldn't be a problem. When I was younger I bowled 2 to 3 leagues a year and really enjoyed it. But as the years have went by things change, as they change for everyone. Getting married, job opportunities, having kids, financial situation due to these factors as most everyone goes through these at some time. As long as you enjoy to bowl, bowl as often as you can while you still can and have fun.

ya, I belive I can do it, and although it won't be cheap, around $33 a week. I will get by.

ATleast it isn't the same shot each night, the Tuesday and Thurs is at my home house which is alot harder than the other house, the Wednsday is fairly easy with lots of high scores and where the best bowlers in Eville bowl at. I am curiouse to see what my average is there compared to my home house.

$33 a week for three leagues is CHEAP! I'm looking at:

Monday ..... $22
Wednesday .. $16
Thursday ...  $7 (senior league)

Monday has a Sponsor fee $10 per man and Sanction fee of $17

Monday and Wednesday require last 2 weeks paid before 3rd week of bowling.

Cost me:
Monday 1st week 22/22/17/10 = $71
Tuesday 1st week 16/16 ---------- =  32
Wednesday 1st week 7------------= 7
Monday 2nd week 22/22 ----------=44
Tuesday 2nd week 16/16 ---------=32
Wednesday 2nd week 7 -----------=7

Two weeks of bowling $193

That's what I've been saying all the while BOWLERS ARE LOSING INTEREST DUE TO COST!
