Is ANY ball worth $250 undrilled?!?
« on: December 22, 2003, 08:36:12 PM »
as has been noted in another post, there was an older storm ball on ebay that went for $242 plus shipping yesterday. . . a 15lb storm thunder flash.

now, i'm not trying to get on anyone's case . . . but is there a ball that you would pay that much for?

i can't think of anything . . . unless it's an old manhattan urethane ball undrilled . . . SOLELY for sentimental reasons.

how about you?!?

Thanks Ragner,

Once again, the amount I have won already this season with these balls is truley incredible.  Im not tooting my own horn, but I was averaging in the 230's till they put some snot down on the lane.  These balls couldnt break 570.

Now that they have gone back to pretty much the old shot, it works great on these synthetics that the backends and midlane get scorched because of all the dopeheads burning up the oil 45 minutes before league starts with their sanded particle balls.  While everyone is having trouble, Im still playing 12-8, not 25 to 5.  This ball is like a "Original Blue Hammer on Steroids".  For those of you that loved your Blue Hammer, you see where Im coming from and would truly appreciate this ball.

I have also drilled up an old ball I have had for 7 years today with a 9 1/2 inch pin, yes 9 1/2 inches.  The lanes have been screaming, wait to they see this relic take the cash.

Merry Christmas to All

as i noted, i'm not trying to disparage anyone or their personal decisions . . . as a matter of fact, i saw on storm's site that a bowler using (with an x-factor) a thunder flash won the abc all events in knoxville this summer.

simply a post to see what other balls are "emotional" or "money balls" for us bowling fanatics . . . i'd pay $250 for a blue dot if i could win $20 grand!

What happens if you shoot 900 with an old hard to find discontinued ball?

Not that I did, but hey, specs were perfect and you cant get them anymore.  Storm doesnt even have any at the plant.

Some idiot just paid $81.75 for a NIB 15# original Black Manhattan Rubber
Not sure if it's gonna get drilled or not. My 3-Dot will probably never wear out.

I think the point being missed is not that he paid $242 for it, but that others were bidding it up that high to begin with.  Obviously others thought it was worth it besides him.

I'd pay $1000 for a ball if I had it and I knew I could make my money back and alot more with it.  It's all in the investment.  What is the winner was someone like Tim Mack or a storm staffer that couldn't get the ball and he used it to win a tournament for $40,000?  You guys don't know who the buyer is, he could be a top scratch bowler in his area and can easily double the amount he paid for the ball on any given night.

If I could find an undrilled TKO I would pay that. I love that ball and would be willing to a high price for it.

Maybe a Carbide LRG, possibly an original Trauma.  I work in a pro shop, so my costs would be minimal to drill it, but if I had to pay 250 and then another 50 or 60 to get it drilled, probably not.  With as much stuff as there is on the market, surely you can find something close for a lower price.

.... a $250 Thunder Flash.... nah. If it was Thunder Road... then maybe... maybe... if i was earning 6 figures. Now, as a poor student, it means no.
