Don't ever make this mistake! Foot pain!!!
« on: April 29, 2004, 06:18:58 PM »
I have a friend that had it and then I got it!

It ended his bowling career, it has almost ended mine!

Plantar fashi????????.  Anyway it is pain in the arch of your foot/feet.

I started with wearing sandals all the time with no arch supports.  I have a very high arch.  All of a sudden my foot arch hurt.  Every morning it would feel like I had a burning or searing pain in the arch and then I couldn't even put my heel down.  Both feet!

Talk about feeling and looking like an old man.

I heard about this from a friend said he ended his bowling carreer because of it.

I went to Web MD.  They explain that the pain is actually minor tears in the ligaments under the arch and that it leads to pain so severe that people can't even comprehend.  (I know) They said "treatments include stretching and a calf raise motion"  Oh, great idea!  I used to do those all the time!!!  I go to the gym, slap a little over a hundred on the calf raise device and rep away.  All of sudden on 3 or 4 a searing burning sensation in the arch and now I'm really cooked!!!  It's worse than ever!!!

Now over the past 10 months since last July, I can hardly walk in the morning!
My bowling seems to be all over the place and I hurt after AND my friends are constantly telling me my slide step has gotten really short!!!  No wonder my push off foot is in absolute agony and the slide step not much better.

I'm depressed.  All of a sudden I feel like not only am I getting OLD and I'm falling apart at the seams!  This is permanent in my mind!

I go to a Doctor and she tells me, "Don't worry this is curable fast!!!  I've had it and done it!"  Do this, "She then shows me a calf movement that consists of basically pulling the toes UP towards the kneecap thus stretching the ligaments under the foot".  NOt pushing DOWN like a calf raise movement!!!

In three to four weeks I feel almost all better!!!!!  From depressed to ALMOST cured.  I now practice and am focusing on taking a longer more driving step for my last step.  It's working.  Yesterday I carried into the 10th frame a chance at 290 in practice!!!!!  In league 7 of 8 to start a game last night.

Tape the arches huh?  Hmmmm?  Could you describe method?

Also, Doc H.

May have gotten me wrong.  I was trying to describe that I had often been told that I had wonderful balance.  I thought the unusual high arch had something to do with it.  Just a guess. In golf and for a long time in bowling.  Now the balance in bowling is gone a little since this problem.

LuckyLefty,
I use Johnson & Johnson Hurt-Free Tape. (Extra Wide).  It's flexible and porous, so your skin can breathe. I start on the inside of my foot, wrap over the top, back under the arch and then repeat once. The reason I do it this way is because I also had a "reverse bunion" on my little toe and it helped pull the bones of the foot on the outside back in line.  It's easier to show, but I hope this made sense.

Lucky - I know that you are always changing things in your game to make it better.  Do you think that something you have changed may have also changed your balance?
