Plastic coated lanes ?
« on: April 20, 2005, 11:16:05 PM »
Our linesman, who has bowled all over for a fair few years 20+, was going on about one of his many tales, and he mentioned that he played in an AMF house that has wood lanes with a plastic coating?

Is this a normal thing, and how can you spot it?

Guardian would be considered this. Also Laneshield which is newer and thicker with less coeficient of friction. Yes somewhat normal. Spotting it, not sure what to tell yah. Guardian has a dull shine to it. I usually ask the proprietor or tournament director. After you see it a few times (guardian) you know. Have yet to try Laneshield but heard decent reports. Guardian is softer and robs energy early in most cases. It kills my game as i tend to get fairly early roll so usually have to go with shiny surfaces and flare reducing drill patterns.

At bowlhaven in Alton they have a blueish plastic covering called laneshield. Isn't so bad unless you're bowling over 3 games on it, lanes break down horribly fast and can get real ugly.

MonkeyBoy,

When done properly, Guardian front and wood backend is one of the best surface.

If you are in London, go to AMF Lewisham, in .... Lewisham .... of course.

Nice lanes.

I think that's what Rebelanes in Tupelo, MS (where Rudy Revs lives) has.  Blue heads and wood backends.  The blue head extends to about 15-20 feet.
