Ball Polish - which one?
« on: February 20, 2011, 02:03:49 PM »
What's the best?  What do you use and why?  I have a few balls that I've sanded down and they're skippin a little too much off the dry and I've never used polish before.  I know I can take them to a finer grit, but something about a shinny ball is always nice and pretty...ha!  Any help you all can offer as a community would be much appreciated!

Got me some black magic (8oz for 11 bucks at local pro shop)...wore my arms out putting it on there and getting the best shine I could by hand.  Not too shabby to me tho.  We'll see how they perform now.  I really need to get a spinner or that thing that goes on my drill...

I have been using Black Magic for a long time and our pro shop uses it as well. Polishes the ball well, but does not reduce the hook potential of the ball. I have used car polishes back in the old days and you get a pretty ball that no longer hooks like it was designed. Now if what you are needing is to reduce the hook due to dry lanes that would be an excellent choice, but if just needing to get the ball down the lane easier and create a stronger back end then the Black Magic is an excellent choice.

Roll with 900 Global.

I like the black magic.  It worked well on my Gladiator Pearl, pushes a little farther than I wanted, but still snaps on the back...on my Jigsaw(original), not so much.  I dont know if the Jigsaw is just not the ball for me or what.  It does hit hard, but it's never a nice shot to the pocket and it seems to be very sporadic when I find the line.  Nice thing about the Jigsaw is that I usually avoid splits with it.  I'm going to work with it a little more and if I cant get it to work it's going up for sale/trade...

I use Storm 1 2 3 step polish, and then Xtra shine if I need more shine.   I will also use some Lane#1/Beans Secret Sauce if I need a ball that is crazy shinny that will grip the back end hard.

i use 3m finesse it II. i like it a lot! i apply by hand as best as possible and gives me a touch more length without losing the back-end. it worked great especially on my invasion.
