most of them accept resumes for amatuer positions. usually, you have to have them in by november. i know that roto grip, track, and storm do this.

You have to be really, really good.  Or have connections.  Alot of staffers now a days work at a proshop and thats how they get on staff, because they can help the company selling equipment.  It is nearly impossible if you are just a regular league bowler and don't know someone who is already with a company.

BowlingDude300,

A staff bowler sounds good, but let me tell you something.  I am not on a staff, but I was approached once.  I was in a tournament and doind exceptionally well.  I had made it through the first two rounds and had gotten some attention.

There was a rep there, I won't mention the company, who asked me if I had ever thrown their companies stuff.  I said yes, but not in a long time.  He offered to drill me up a couple of balls and let me try them, providing that I use them if I made it to the rolloff round.  I told him that was very generous, but if I made it to the finals, I was going to use whatever I thought it would take to win and if it was something made by someone else that he could not duplicate, that I would be using the other ball.

I was told that I would NEVER make anyones staff with that attitude, but that's O.K. .  If I have to lose to get free balls and sponsorship, then to heck with it.

No, I didn't win.  Neither did the guy throwing their brand of ball either. I don't know if he black balled me or something, but nobody else ever approached me about it again.

Yea, in a way.   They want you to use their stuff and make it look REALLY good, when in fact a good bowler can sometimes use a lesser ball and make it look like a killer.

Look at the pros. I have seen some of those guys take balls designed to be "dry" lane balls and hook them from gutter to gutter and win tournaments throwing very low class stuff.

A few years ago I saw, and you did too probably, a tournament won with an ebonite gyro pro.  A gyro pro?  Yep, thats right.  The amatuer that won the A.B.C. masters awhile back was throwing a blue urethane hammer and that ball has been out of production for several years now.

They just want to show off their wares and make them look as good as possible, thinking that if you see someone win a tournament with one, or shoot really high scores, that you will want one also and but it.
