Building Your Dream Team!!
« on: August 12, 2009, 11:44:57 PM »
This is a open invitation to all.Let's have some feedback on what you and are looking for when putting together tournament team, or a team for stronger leagues.

Now my list is a generic team builder for all sports but this what I tell my students.
The team needs synergy, everyone  working in harmony toward a common goal where the outcome
is greater than the sum of the parts.
Athletic teams with less talent are able to defeat more talented teams simply because they worked
together for a common goal.

So how should you go about putting together this team?

1 Find a small group of people with the same goal.
2 Keep the group small which allows you to focus on goals.
3 Make sure to have regular meetings and practice sessions.
4 Keep meetings upbeat and positive.
5 Players should openly encourage and support each other.
6 Player must have open communication with each other.
7 Make sure each player knows what their role is on the team.
8 Players must have at least a mutual respect for each other.
9 Players must consider themselves team players.
10 Make sure every persons contributions are recognized.

Now to be a success everyone must do their job well, this increases what the team can accomplish.
The teamwork has to be recognized by everyone and ,each person  has to know that great things can
happen if each person masters the fundamentals.

Now I also  want to know what you are looking for as far as bowlers style and mental ability ,etc.

I have built what I call 3 dream teams.  Each one had a totally different personality.  Communications is a big thing.  The best team by far was the Irving High School Girls team from 2006.  Each member brought something different to the table and they worked well.  No egos, no personality conflicts, just a great team.  They had a great work ethic and worked hard.  They had egos and personality but they were directed correctly.  I remember Taylor Johns getting in a snipping match with Jason Couch.  I think she said something like MR. COUCH it's your turn to bowl ARE YOU going to BOWL.  I love building teams and I'm interested in the new course that USBC has on the subject.

Smash, thats great. These are the things I want to hear on these forums.Just watching the PGA Championship and hearing the news that golf may finally make it into the Olympics. With coaches like
you and others, we need to keep doing the right things when it comes to building the proper
perspectives toward team bowling.
