Is there a ball out there.....
« on: April 12, 2005, 04:13:19 AM »
Is there a ball out there that is weaker than a Barrage but stronger than plastic. I have a Barrage and currently use it for drier, but it still seems a bit strong. It is drilled pin under ring, cg in palm.

My only guess is a urethane ball or even a pearl urethane could be weaker but not really sure. Any help on what could be weaker than a Barrage when the lanes dry out??

I suggest a XXXL Plastic with the hit of any other hi performance ball.  Also a Bullet it is reactive pearl but it super super tame and plus the coreis super low flaring also.  The only true current produced Pearl urethane I can think of is Slate Blue Gargoyle but I think Columbia has one too don't they.

The XXXL I can believe, but the Bullet?? Do you really think that is going to be less aggressive than a Barrage??

I doubt it.  Haven't thrown a Barrage, but my Bullet is no good for shooting 10 pins - too much left turn on the dry.

I have a power groove urithane that I use when my sonic x is
overhooking and just before I go to plastic.  For a ball with
a pancake core it hits really hard if the lanes are dry enough
to need it.  This ball has been a real life saver for me.

I forgot to mention the ball out of the box is sanded with
about 400 or 600 grit so you will need to polish it.

Sorry I forgot to put this in my original post.

Red Pearl urethane is a Pancake I think we were trying to stay clear of pancakes.

Visionary Slate Blue Gargoyle.  Great ball I got a 300 with it.  I drilled mine pretty strong and it still hooks less than most of my reactivces.

Has anyone here actually thrown both the Barrage AND the Slate Blue Gargoyle?

Older urethane equipment isn't the way to go.  All of my old urethane stuff hooks more than my Barrage.

Col. makes a urethane pearl, Trooper, excellent ball for fried heads, or basic light oil patterns.

Since the demise of the Lane#1 XXL ( pearl urethane) ((Stupid Lane#1 ball neams!!)), the Visionary Slate Blue Gargoyle is the only 2 piece, dynamic cored ball with a pearlized urethane coverstock, THAT I KNOW ABOUT. It is the next step down from the Dyno-Thane Barrage/ Storm Big Hit/Lane#1 Bullet/Ebonite Tornado type of ball to handle dry-ish heads and lower amounts of oil.

Brunswick now has the Power Groove Dry/R which BrunsNick, with all the hand he puts in it, has a hard time getting to wrinkle.
