package missing, what to do??
« on: February 22, 2008, 02:23:40 PM »
I recently bought a trailer hitch for one of my vehicles on ebay. The seller sent me the tracking number today showing that the package was delivered, but it's not here. What do I do now??

If it were me ( and it has been ), I would contact both the seller and the carrier, letting the seller try to find out what is going on from their end.

  Then, when I contacted the carrier, I would inform them that I was the scheduled recipient of the package and that it shows to have been deliverd, but had not reached you.

  The problem in my case was that the package had been delivered to the wrong address.

Could have been delivered, left somewhere around the front of your house and someone stole it. Or delivered to the wrong house and the recipient also needed a hitch. The carrier probably will not give you much satisfaction as their records obviously shows the package was delivered.

Good Luck!!!

This happened to me over Christmas with a box of candy I had ordered from a company back east.  It never arrived and the company said the tracking number said it was delivered.  I told them no, then they contacted UPS who simply said their driver delivered it.  I said No.  Then UPS called me, I still said no I didn't get the package.  Then the candy company sent out another box.  It arrived in a couple days and then a day later the original box of candy arrived in a totally different location around my home then the UPS driver said he put it.  Bottom line is that the candy store must have filed a claim, which tThe home owner that did receive the package brought it to my home and just put it on my porch somewhere.  But it took them a few days to do so.

Now for the real crapper.  My address, after 6 or 7 years or sucessful deliveries, is now labeled as "sign only".  Which means I can no longer have packages dropped off at my home.  Since I work every day, including the time UPS comes around, I'm  never home to sign for anything.  So now I have to reroute all my packages because one UPS driver delivered a $15 box of candy to the wrong house.  And our local UPS office is over 50 min drive away.  So its not convenient to just go pick it up either.

The sender is going to have to file a claim that you did not receive it.  Then UPS should call you to confirm that you did not receive it.  Then UPS will have to compensate the seller, and in turn he should send that money back to you.

I work for a company that ships car parts. When something happens like this you have to call the carrier (ups, fedex or whoever) and they will contact the driver and see if they have any idea on where its at. Sometimes the driver marks it as delivered but doesn't always deliver the part until the next day, something I have heard before and happened to me once.

If they say it was delivered then you have to contact the seller and they will have to file a claim with the carrier and it will be handled that way. Most times they will just issue a refund to the seller and its the sellers responsibility to refund you of your money.

Not necessarily. We used to do the following:
If we were expecting a package, we'd leave a note in a prearranged location stating to leave the package where the driver knew it'd be safe. As long as we signed the note, it was good.

Of course, the above methodology only works if you've got a good place to put stuff - or you're in a safe neighborhood. Fortunately, we were both.

For 6 or 7 years packages have been safely and sucessfully left on my front porch.  Now a signature has to be given, no notice can be left by us allowing the drop off, signature only.  This I've been told by other UPS drivers is because a claim was put in for that package going to my address.  So now my address is "flagged".  Now it could be my neighbor's signature (but I'd have to call UPS and tell them to go to the neighbor, or anyone elses that resides in the home but a signature is needed now.  It really sucks because I was not the one that made the error and yet I get the punishment.
