Is there any oil pattern that allows more hook than the THS?
« on: September 05, 2008, 06:03:05 AM »
I am guessing this questions for the crankers out there.

Where is the deepest you (or someone you've seen) played on the lanes?

I've seen a right handed player loft the left gutter cap and was playing between the 6th and 7th arrow.

He once threw  a ball a little short and threw it in the left gutter on the fly.

I'm not sure what your asking...Is it what pattern hooks more than a THS or is it what is the deepest you have ever seen anyone?

Not sure what you're really asking in this post, but by the 3rd game here on the scratch league I'm usually lofting the gutter capping and clearing about 15 feet to clear the burnt heads.  I guess that's what happens with 4-5 crankers on the same pair every week.

Sorry about that. I am guessing its two questions. It was topic that came up after league.

1. We were wondering if there was an oil pattern out there that worked best playing it deep. I was thinking the THS is the only one (for crankers of course).

2. Then it was asked: "Where is the deepest you have seen someone play?"

Well, I've not played on the Shark in a long time, but when I did I had to play deep to avoid the outside.

My revs are pretty high, but not high enough to where I had to play infront of the ball return and launch over the gutter cap.  I've played as deep as 40 though.

I don't think there is any specific pattern that promotes playing 6th or 7th arrow more than others.  By that time it all depends on how they break down.

Example: Look at Robert Smith lofting the caps on the SHARK in Vernon Hills last season.

Also, lofting the gutter caps is nothing unusual at the collegiate level where there are 8+ games of high(er) rev players on them.

And the deepest I've seen someone successfully play is lofting about 30.  I mean hitting 30 on the fly, 25 feet down the lane, and out to 10-15 at the breakpoint.  At that point it isn't about how many revs but rather how far can you loft the ball.

On the Chameleon I often start at the 5th arrow, but thats just me some people like the outside on that pattern. On a THS I usually start in between 2nd and 3rd arrow. The Chameleon will force you super deep if you aren't playing the oil on the outside, because there is so much friction towards the inside and it wants to checkup so early.

I have played 6th on more than one occasion actaully I am pretty good at it, I have been out that far on Chameleon and a couple of the kegel sport patterns. Was that deep a few times in Shawano in the Mountain Bay Masters league trying to stay away from everyones ball track.

The deepest I've played was standing in front of the ball return and just throwing it out. But of course I had to lower my speed.
