Title: Is this even possible?
Post by: Matt Fortney on November 09, 2013, 07:08:54 PM
Is it possible to make a mold of a current thumbhole and turn it into an IT? Lmk if you've got any experience with this.

Yes....it is possible.  Even before I started using interchangeable thumbs a few seasons ago, I had a mold of my thumb that was drilled into every ball I drilled, and just had my custom thumb put in an it-----the thing with that is that to do that your proshop guy will need to have "larger" sleeves ..the standard ones are too small to put a custom thumb in but if he doesn't have the larger ones in stock, they can be ordered that can accommodate a thumb mold.

Matt,

a buddy of mine who owns Wenger's does the thumb molds... and as he said you basically take your best " thumb " hole that you like and it is duplicated..

Yes, you can put it into an IT thumb.  Vise makes a sleeve that you can glue a mold into it and then it becomes an IT thumb.  Hope this helps.

Most of the bowlers I know who use changeable thumbs have a few of them of varying sizes.  They change to a different thumb instead of using lots of tape in or out as their thumb swells or shrinks.  If that is what you're thinking then it kinda negates the reason for doing one from a mold that would be the "perfect fit" so to speak.
