I lucked out last night and got to bowl on a fresh PBA shark pattern. Man, what an enlightenment. My first (and lowest) game was 128. After accepting the fact that I could not play this pattern like the normal house shot, I was able to bowl 177, 168 and 174 my last three games. Strikes were far and few, and I had to make spares to score decent for me.
The hardest part was the mental adjustment of not being able to play where I wanted to play at the speed I wanted to play. I ended up playing straight up 8 with a relatively slow ball speed, 13.5 mph. If I got up past 14 mph, the ball skidded strait down the lane. If I got to slow, high hit and crazy splits.
Overall, if I saw this pattern on a regular basis, I could play on it o.k. It is not as difficult as when the lanes are totally dry, because there is consistency in the shot if you are accurate.
