Is your league sanctioned? Do you care?
« on: May 10, 2010, 05:19:53 PM »
Been a lot of people talking about the USBC and the future of bowling. The USBC has been little more lately than a beurocratic anchor around bowlings neck, and I think people are starting to be fed up with it and have had enough.

I would like you guys, and gals, to answer a couple of questions for me. Lets see just what everybody thinks about this.

1. Is your league sanctioned?
2. Do you care if it is or not?
3. Are your leagues considering NOT sanctioning?
4. Would you bowl in an UN-sanctioned league?

My league is sanctioned
No I dont care if it is sanctioned or not.
No they are not
I would Rather bowl unsanctioned just to slap USBC in the face.

2. Don't care.

3. One yes, one no.

4. Sure. I bowl to bowl, not for a magnet.

Agree with CRD on this. USBC provides playing rules. Without the rules I think a league or tournament would have more problems.

I seriously don't understand why people would want to join a non sanctioned league much less say you don't care. Those of you that are not part of USBC I have no respect for you or for bowling. It's meaningless to watch you practice with a bunch of people that are only bowling for fun because your scores mean nothing.

1. Is your league sanctioned?

Yes

2. Do you care if it is or not?

Based on the conclusion of the 09-10 season, where we won our 32 team league and the only thing the USBC provided for winning were "League Champion" Refrigerator Magnet! I would have preferred the old Patches instead of this slap-in-the-face! So, yes I would prefer to bowl in a non-sanctioned league if this is all they have to offer. I see nothing beneficial coming from the current USBC.

3. Are your leagues considering NOT sanctioning?

Neither one has discussed it.

4. Would you bowl in an UN-sanctioned league?

Yes and No, depends if the USBC will clean-up their act.

Your option. As far as scores meaning nothing ? I always thought individual/team sports were a "beat your best score" thing. That's how I look at any individual and most team sports. If you don't improve, why are you here ? As far as your respect, doesn't matter to me. I do the best I can, be that golf, bowling, raising my grand kids and that's about all one can ask for.

If one is good enough to make a living off bowling, maybe different but i'm not that good and never will be so it's a sport I enjoy and try my best to have fun and enjoy it. If you feel other wise, that's up to you. Respect is something that should be given until that person shows they no longer deserve it.

If one is going to be in a non-sanctioned league, I'd hope someone took the time and effort to have rules set up and approved by said league. If they didn't/don't then they are just to lazy to try.

I only bowl in sanctioned leagues and tournaments. I need verified league averages to bowl in many types of tournaments. This too is the only way to receive recognition for honor scores that are bowled. Maybe this will change in the future but for now this is the only way to go.

Well I have experienced 2 non sanction leagues. There were two reason for them going non-sanction.

a. The Fee
b. All the rules - People were tired of dealing with rules. They just wanted to have fun.

Well on one league it was pretty obvious a team wanted to win. It was the week before position round. That team was already in first place and was not going lose that position. So what did they do. Threw gutter balls and screwed around all night. There were no rules, nothing to keep them in check. All bowlers on that team bowled at least 50 - 60 pins less per game that night.

It was all fun through the entire season for everyone. Then this team does this on the next to last week of bowling. Once they found out there was some money to be won. They thought to give themselves a little extra insurance and saw nothing wrong with it.

Alot of teams quit the following year.

Wait till someone walks off with $20,000 and you will wish you were sanctioned.
