Is your league sanctioned? Do you care?
« on: May 10, 2010, 05:19:53 PM »
Been a lot of people talking about the USBC and the future of bowling. The USBC has been little more lately than a beurocratic anchor around bowlings neck, and I think people are starting to be fed up with it and have had enough.

I would like you guys, and gals, to answer a couple of questions for me. Lets see just what everybody thinks about this.

1. Is your league sanctioned?
2. Do you care if it is or not?
3. Are your leagues considering NOT sanctioning?
4. Would you bowl in an UN-sanctioned league?

1. Yes
2. Yes
3. Yes
4. Yes

... and a bit of factual information: Within the jurisdiction of my local association (here in Sarasota and Manatee counties of Florida), MORE THAN HALF OF THE LEAGUES are currently non-sanctioned, as compared to 30 years ago, when virtually all the leagues WERE sanctioned.

If one were to bowl a sanctioned league and averaged 150 and an unsanctioned league and averaged 200, would said person then enter their state tournament with the 150 average?  Most tournament rules ask for book average.  Not saying this would happen, but imagine the howling if it did.

Dear bowl400:

Few tournaments (at least at the state level) would accept non-certified averages. Therefore, if you were in compliance with all other entering-average requirements and rules (requiring declaration of previous tournament winnings, for example), you would likely be able to use the 150 average.

However, if your local association were to be fortified with information about your non-certified 200 average -- and especially should there be "complaints" about your 150 average (should it be considered to have been deliberately established below your natural ability) -- you may be subject to a rerate hearing to defend any "information" that may be submitted against you.

1. Is your league sanctioned?

The 2 leauges I currently bowl in are both sanctioned.

2. Do you care if it is or not?

No. I don't care if it is sanctioned or not because while I am very competitive I don't need a sanctioned leauge to be competitive in. All of my summer bowling will be on non-sanctioned leauges and I will still be the same kind of bowler I have always been.

3. Are your leagues considering NOT sanctioning?

Neither leauge has brought up this thought.

4. Would you bowl in an UN-sanctioned league?

As I already stated above, I will bowl in non-sanctioned leauges. With the way the current awards are. Cheaply made refriderator magnets?? I don't even own a refriderator and when I do have one it will most likely have my childs accomplishments on it when ever I have a kid. Is this what the USBC thinks of their members? Oh toss em a magnet for their refridgerator so they can show their accomplishment just like their child does when they get an A on their history paper or a big test?? Screw that and SCREW THE USBC!!

BTW, I heard that at the latest convention meeting that was out west about a month ago or so that the PBA will most likely be no longer after 2011-2012 season. Not surprised 1 bit to hear that.

"There were no rules, nothing to keep them in check. All bowlers on that team bowled at least 50 - 60 pins less per game that night."

You can do that in USBC and they will not do anything to stop it. They will say you have to prove it.

USBC rule are very vague and leave it it to the local leagues to interpret and enforce.

Seen it before, will see it again. USBC like many businesses have mismanaged their way into problems they are not smart enough to fix.

Most awards are to the point that they are not worth getting. The 11 in a row award is a huge joke. Soon you will just get an email for whatever you did.

Congrats (enter name here) on your accomplishment. Please enter name and print. -USBC

All of our leagues are sanctioned that bowl regular, the house does have a 9 pin no tap ladies that is not. Mine always have and always will.

I do care.

My leagues and none in our center that I am aware of are considering not sanctioning. (other than the no tap).

I would never bowl in an unsanctioned league.

All of the tournaments I operate are also sanctioned and always will be.

Just skimming over, how many bowl a summer league and if you do is it sanctioned? I know in my area that every league during the fall/winter season is sanctioned that I know of but the summer leagues are not.

I'm on a practice league for the summer with my girl, and it's sanctioned. I'm like "A sanctioned practice league, how ridiculous is that?"

 USBC = money hungry carnivorous

Sanctioning has its place, and we all understand this, but at certain times sanctioning is quite unnecessary.

yes both

yes

not that i know of

i would rather not

i have been a proud bowler going on 34 seasons.  it sadens me to see the cheap awards being given out.  and having to pay for 298,299 rings is the worst.  these were always free in the past.  is this mismanagement or greed on the part of this governing body??????????????????

Yes, my leagues are. Yes, I care. No, none of mine are considering dropping sanctioning.

Bowl in a non-sanctioned league? A tough question. I have in the past and hated it. I knew any honor scores wouldn't count nor would anything else we bowled, for that matter. It really took the fun out of it for me. I won't do it again unless it's the only option available.

Also, even though I've only been bowling 20 years, I've already lived long enough to see someone try to walk off with all or part of the prize fund three different times. As for all these rules people are supposedly tired of, most people I've bowled with appreciate a little structure. The only people I've ever noticed complaining about "all the rules" are people you don't want around you in the first place.
