I have had the same issues with this ball finishing weak. I drilled it myself, then altered the surface many times, then added a balance hole; still weak. As far as I'm concerned, I have an entry level ball with a high performance price. Now I'm gun-shy about buying the BW Legend.
I didn't like the spiders when they came out initially, and I mean all of them, from the original BW, to the Pearl, Spare, Bite, Nasty, Danger, all of them. But then again, I was firmly ensconced in Ebonite as I went all in with the Total NV, Complete NV, Mission, etc.
Came back to Hammer with the First Blood. I thought it definitely didn't work as advertised, until I realized that I intentionally went with a weaker drill than I realized. But that worked out as it made for a great down and in shot. Cold blood worked beautifully. Have it in my bag still.
Absolut Curve and Deadly Aim, not so much. As weak as my FB was, it still outperformed my Absolut Curve, and it was drilled strong. Same with the Deadly Aim, as it was supposed to complement the Pivot I bought.
Over the summer, traded both of them in, and followed Plowboy's advice and finally got bit by the spider. BW Legend and Absolut Flip. Both are absolutely phenomenal balls, with the BW Legend in particular. The shape and motion that ball has is spot on with how Doug Kent's original BW looked when he won that major on the tour.
I think my problem with the Deadly Aim was what everyone here was saying: it's a different looking ball from what we are used to and are expecting, and I just didn't give it more of a chance. If I can find a hole in my arsenal for it, I may try to slot it in again, but again, the problem with the Deadly Aim is me, not the ball.
