Okay, so I'm getting myself a new ball for my birthday in February. Now that I've gotten better in my game, I want to try a solid coverstock.
I have, in order of strength:
Track Mean Machine (1500 grit)
Track 916AT (500/2000 grit)
Track 920A (500+Rough Buff)
Track Power Machine (1500+High Gloss)
Roto Grip Mars (500+Rough Buff+High Gloss)
I have narrowed my list to 5 so far. There may be more that come out in January, but I am most likely going to stay with these picks. Here they are in order of what I want most, along with the rationale behind it:
Roto Grip Shooting Star: This ball just seems super smooth at one hell of a price. I've been eye-balling this one since it came out and finances simply haven't been there.
Roto Grip Disturbed: I really like this one because I don't have anything symmetric at this strength. This one looks like it could be used when I need to control the breakpoint. Basically, since the Shooting Star is discontinued, I am looking at this ball if I can't find a Shooting Star.
Ebonite Cyclone: Basically, I like the fact that I can get a similar reaction to the One, which I never got to throw. A guy on my league has a cyclone at 4000 and it is a beauty on the house shot.
Lane #1 Pink Panther: My doubles partner is adamant about me trying Lane #1. He is a big fan of the kool-aid and is always saying how their cores are heavier and more dense than any other brand and that's why they hit so hard (even though his hit like marshmallows, he gets great carry). He told me he could get me one of these balls drilled for less than $100 and he would buy it off me if I didn't like it.
Hammer Cobalt Vibe: I never got to throw any of the Black Widow series, and the Taboos are just too strong for my conditions. Didn't like the cover/core match-ups for my game. Love the Vibe core and remember everyone loving the first two widows.
I'm not looking to replace any balls in my arsenal, but I am looking to try out new things (symmetric solids) to get better all around.
