After my past experiences at Nationals, I've come to the conclusion that this year I'm going to bring fewer rather than more. For me, there aren't enough practice shots to get a feel for what's going to work best among many balls. A couple of medium strength even rolling balls (one solid and one pearl), plus possibly something a little more aggressive will be it.

So this year, I'm bringing 2-3 plus plastic.

I am taking 6 and did last year as well. You need one that will work, but which one is the issue. Watching video they look like they are really hooking, but still will hear comments about them being slick or having out of bounds. So what do you choose?

Last year I went off discussions and added surface to most of what was in the bag. Last thing I needed was adding more hook. Had to polish everything and needed something weaker by singles.

It would be great to take just three. A pin up, pin down and plastic. If those don't work you are out a lot of money on travel, entries and brackets. So I will take a pin up and pin down 900 Eagle and plastic in one bag. The second is looking like I will add my Avalalanche for that weak option, Favorite and either Profit or Bank.

I think the answer depends on when your singles/doubles squad is, this year we bowled on the first squad for singles and doubles in the morning which means we caught the fresh twice.  In that case 2-3 balls would likely cover it.  If you bowl singles and doubles later in the day, than you might consider 2-3 more to better deal with the burn.

Going to take 2 + spare ball. Doesn't matter with me because every year the ball I would work is left at home anyway. Gotta keep that excuse going. Ahhhhh tradition :)

Bowling is like life. Sometimes you are the ball. Other times you are the pins.

Adding to my comment. We bowl the 8:30 team and 5:30 D/S. So, we bowl after the early team for our doubles and singles. That could be where I see the need for more options. I also agree that seems like I always wish I had that other ball, that one that you know if you had it you could have shot much better. Next year is a drive to event, since Baton Rouge is close enough to just drive there. I will have at least 9 with me for that one and why not since I can toss them in the back of the SUV.

I just returned from Nationals.

My companion team had 4 ex-pba players on it (2 have won multiple nationals titles) they would have had a 5th ex-pba bowler but he injured his knee the day before they were to bowl.

They each brought 4 to 5 balls, the 4 bowlers all shot 1950 to 2050 all events.

While I don't bowl nearly as well I still feel 3 to 4 strike balls are enough if you have any versatility in your game, any more than that you will spend all your time searching for a ball and by the time you find it, it will be to late to shoot anything.
