So What Shot are you going to put out today?

Let hear what you would do if you are in charge.

I would say put out the red, white, and blue pattern.

Today, I would oil the lanes from gutter to gutter and from front to back.  Even oil throughout the lane.

Tomorrow, I would strip the lanes and put on oil on the lanes.

Get the bowlers frustrated.  See how many bowling balls they
are going to bring to the bowling alley.

A consistent medium oil THS would be out every day.

Oiled 2x per day. In the morning and right before the 6pm league starts

I'm with Global.  I would mix it up everyday.  Long/Heavy, Long/Light, Short/Heavy, Short/Light, etc.

I would love to see those who are locked in it one way gripe and moan all night.  I would love even more to see the great ones actually adjust.

+1 I love that idea.  I would also make a fifth shot that would be a modified easier version of the cheetah pattern with less oil and more area so bowlers can play from 1-8 instead of 1-5.  My main goal though would be to take away the people who fluff the ball 10-13 mph down second arrow and carry the house all night longand force them to adjust, and also make the crankers and high rev players adjust and play nearer the channel.

i would have like 5 patterns and the league could choose what goes out for their league. so if its the beer leagues and they want china they will it and the higher level scratch league could get something harder if they want. then the sport leagues could obviously have whatever sport pattern they want

Well obviously you dont want to scare people away, so I would do as cheech said, offer the leagues a choice, and let them know that's what they will get all year, at the same time I would make sure I have the best oil machine possible, nothing more frustrating than seeing the lane machine go down the lane and no do what's it's suppose to do.
Also, on Sunday's during the day i would put down a tougher shot, so if the bowlers wanted to come in and practice, on something tough I would have it.

Exactly..

Joe league bowler wants a "scoreable" shot and does not want to be challenged by a 40' heavy flat oil pattern...

Clean, well maintained lanes are whats desired..

I would try and put out a consistent shot from night to night and week to week.
That way the bowlers can adjust to the shot .
Also try and have some drink specials that won't break the bank but keep my league bowler's around afterwards.

Try to run occasional tournaments with a mixture of formats.
This should(but won't) keep everyone happy.

Yeah, you're right...Especially when I consider all the complainers in my house with a shot that is pretty consistent from week to week as it already is.

And, on Sat. night I would hire a rock band.

Bring in Stripper poles

Cash Bar

Chinese Buffet

Give out prizes with Strikes on red head pin

Have a rip roaring good time.

I would make more on that night than all of the other days combined.

Love these "suggestions"... Most are from folks who don't manage or own the centers.   Last time we tried a flat oil shot, 10 folks quit on first night.
We were down to 4 people by 3rd week.   Surprisingly, the ones that quit first were the higher average folks..  The lower average bowlers were the last to quit.

What a lot of people don't understand is, without the THS, most centers would close up.

This is why most people don't own businesses or fail in business. They need to understand what makes it work and, more importantly, what doesn't work

I think a lot depends on the up front knowledge of what you will be bowling on. A few years ago i bowled a league where we had 5 patterns. 4 where sport shot and the 5th the house shot. As it was a 35 week league all 5 patterns would be played 7 times throughout the season. The counter had a bag with 35 chips in it. before league they would pull one and that was the pattern. we never knew in advance what we had and you had to figure it out. If you paid attention to what was out each week you could predict the likelihood of what pattern would be there by the number of times each pattern had been used. It was an interesting year to say the least . but fun and challenging.

So you're answer is...."as easy as possible.." good.  Remember the question was...what would YOU put out...
I don't think there would be a problem providing all the leagues what a few shots and them voting on what they would want.  Keeping that shot consistant is very easy and I would have one person in the charge of that.  Like my center here I am in charge of making sure the machine is kept clean and runs good.

Where did you get "easy as possible" from scoreable?? LOL..I guess you think its the same.

Point being, I would try and make it an enjoyable expierence for all and not just a few.
