Just some idle thoughts ....
There seem to be a lot of particle pearl balls being designed and manufactured lately. I think this is a good thing as they, along with solid resin balls, seem to be among the most versatile of bowling balls in our current environment, where most balls only seem to be effective within a very narrow margin or range of oil patterns. SR and PP balls seem to be usable across a larger range of releases and oil patterns.
My real query is just how different are these balls, all from different manufacturers, from one another. Except for certain exceptions like the new Strom Depth Charge which has a very low RG (2.45/2.46, almost identical to the discontinued Hammer Diesel Particle Pearl), almost all of these new Particle Pearls have RGs in the 2.53-2.55 range and RG differential in the .040 - .050 (don't hold me to those exact numbers).
What originally brought this "situation" to my attention was when I started comapring two of these PP balls' number in the BTM reviews: I noticed most had lengths in the 14-16 range and backend numbers in the 14-16 range AND total hook in the 44-46 range. Their utility charts (numbers in the DRY/MEDIUM/OIL oil pattern) were also very similar.
These balls are all around 1500 grit polished; so, this leaves out particle pearls like the Raging Inferno and Power Diesel.
The types of balls I am thinking about are ones like:
DT Vendetta PP
Lane#1 Golden Nugget
Storm Eraser PP
Roto-Grip Pure Fuel
AMF Triumph AMP (not technically a pearl)
Columbia Throttle UP (again, not technically a pearl)
Hammer Big Blue Pearl
Morich Onslaught
Track Animal
I truly wonder if these ball were all the same color, could anyone tell them apart by their reaction?
