« on: April 25, 2005, 07:57:48 AM »
Ive lost my urge to bowl.

As youve noticed, I havent been on here in a while..

For some reason I just dont feel the need to take it seriously anymore.

Hopefully Ill come back in the future. Maybe then Ill be better.

Have you at least taken time off?  I'm in the same boat as you...I'm taking the summer off.  If I still don't want to bowl by the fall, I'm selling my stuff and quitting.

Im gonan bowl one league during the summer. Most chances are im going to use the summer to relearn everything. Start from basics.

Ive already cut down on the amount of I bowl. Its probably just bowler burn out.

Plus Ive been getting worse as this year goes on.. so im sure thats playing a part.

If you're burnt out like you say, even though you're getting worse (like me), the best thing to do is just STOP.  Take time COMPLETELY off.  Believe me, that's the only way.  The only way bowling in the summer will be productive is if you only bowl with a real coach like Ron Clifton.  League will just kill any appetite you have left for bowling....

CS - seriously consider taking the summer off, maybe only open bowl once in a while when you feel like it.  IF you don't feel like bowling in the first place, how do you expect you will shoot your best?  Hence, the "getting worse" as the year goes on thing.  Get away from it for a little while and you'll probably see your scores come back up when you're ready (and WANT) to shoe up again.

Its easy to get burnout by this time of the year, i have 2 weeks left in one league and 3 weeks in another one left. I usually practice every sunday but yesterday decided to help my wife cook for a baby shower of her friend instead. She was estatic that i stayed home and helped i won alot of brownie points but honestly could care less about bowling right now. I can see why ball companies do not market at this point of the year much except closeouts because after over 240 league games i just do not care if i even shoot 250 plus.

I shot 556 for 3 friday night and told my number three bowler to step it up because i am just going to slow roll the ball because my back was sore from too much bowling. He shot right at 600 to make up for me and we won 5 out of 7 points, but he had this lost look like why is this guy just walking slow and throwing the ball so slow. I had a streak of 8 straight 640 plus weeks but even after cuervo 1800 shots i just cared less than more lol

Take some time off and enjoy life even if it just making someones elses day better and helping your wife, girlfriend or mom.

I get away from leagues every summer, but need to keep everyone in my family on just one league to get practice rates.  With the amount of games we bowl in a practice session, we come out ahead financially using practice rates, even including league fees.  To me, summer is for practice and trying new things.  I usually wait for inclement weather.

Can definitely say that I've been there and done that...I walked away circa 1990 and stayed away close to a decade.  Kept all the old stuff but unfortunately got suckered into believing that resin is necessary to score on the current conditions in the league setting.

Then, after I got back from Wichita last May, I basically took off until a few weeks ago.  Part of the leave was to try and give the hand a chance to finally heal properly and some of it was simply the lack of desire to bowl league.  I didn't miss the house shots at all...even now, they lend themselves more to plastic than anything else.  As Queens grows closer, I do find myself going in to practice but league is still a show up, throw the three uninspired games and go home.  But for the fact that I didn't trust the response that I could pay my sanction fee in Tulsa, I doubt I would have bowled league this year at all...
