Smoking law

Here in New York State you can no longer smoke in bowling alley's, bars, restaurants or any public buildings. I dont smoke anymore (havnt since 98) but didnt have any real problems with the people who did. I do enjoy the smoke free environment now but our center has lost ALOT of bowlers. my league went from 12 to 8 teams in 2 years. i know the economy has something to do with it also but i knew a few people who couldnt bowl without smoking.

What im gettin at is , this just doesnt seem right. All these people were huddled outside (in the snow) the other night to get a puff, and by the sounds of the griping, we gonna be down to 6 teams pretty soon.

I also know many local bars closed because of this law. I dont know what its like in other states but i seriously question who this law is benefiting.

CA has been smoke free for a long time now.  It is so nice to come home from bowling not smelling like an ashtray.  

Before the law went into effect, many said they would quit bowling, but most didn't.  Recently leagues are down, but it has nothing to do with no smoking.  Now we don't have snow to deal with, but we do get some good rains every so often.  

The smokers go outside the and have a cig after they bowl their 10th frame.  The real die hards manage a puff or two between frames.

Our sports of bowling should face the same fate that other indoor and outdoor sports have changed in not letting people smoking in confined areas. It is just two or three hours during play in not to smoke. Plane trips you are not allow to smoke. The bowling alleys can provide a indoor closed room with it's own ventilation system. It could be a glass room with closed doors for the smokers to go and have their puff and still enjoy the game. In that way I won't have to strip my clothes in the laundry room and put them in the wash before going into my house.

Oh dear god, please let them pass a law like this in WI.

I know they won't, the tavern league has too much $$ invested in the local governments, but one can dream.

I would drive an extra 20 miles to bowl in a smoke free center.
