Title: just curious, mix covers or not really
Post by: xrayjay on September 27, 2017, 02:32:17 PM
Anyone here just carry solid covers in their bag? or pearl? or all urethane?

And why do you do?

Mine are mixed.  Mostly Pearl because of the lanes I bowl on.

I use a variety of covers on THS.  For the most part, my favorite covers on THS have been polished pearls and polished hybrids.  Solids have not been favored at all until recently.

Not so much cover related but lately I have been sticking to low diff balls on THS that would be labeled as control type balls (IQ Tour Solid and Track Tundra).  The fact that they are somewhat less responsive down lane has become a more favored ball motion to me as of late.

Sport patterns, I mostly stick to solids with surface.  Given my rev rate and lack of underlying friction on the left, I go with stronger equipment that bleeds energy early and doesn't go sideways off the end of the pattern.

I mostly use mild solid covers for the predictability and the strong, but controllable motion downlane.

7 ball tournament lineup
C300 EPX T1 (epoxy)
Stealth Bomber (hybrid)
Scandal Pearl (pearl)
IQ Tour (solid)
Hy-Road (hybrid)
Pyramid Path Rising (pearl)
Blue Hammer remake (kind of urethane, spare)

4 ball league
C300 EPX T1
IQ Tour (this may change as ball disappointing me on THS)
Hy-Road
Blue Hammer remake

Tend to keep everything around 3000 grit unpolished except for my Blue Hammer that is 5000 and polished to high heaven and my EPX at 500 grit or so.  I am speed dominant so polish doesn't work well for me because the ball usually doesn't read the pattern fast enough with it and I go for 3000 grit because it gives me decent traction without risk of rolling out as much and because any lower and the ball will natural go to 3000+ grit anyway and have enough variables to worry about besides the grit on my ball surface changing rapidly.
