Reverse effect?
« on: December 05, 2004, 08:34:18 AM »
Well the last few weeks I have been doing very bad at my bowling, it doesn't seem to matter where I go, I just can bowl right. Last week, on suday we bowled at one of the easiest houses in the state, and I still could only average 145, and I know I can do way better than that. The week before, the shot was a little difficult, but after it broke down, everone was doing great, but I still averaged 147. A few weeks before that stop, we bowled at another very easy house, with a slightly heavy oiled house shot, but once again I only averaged about 151 that day...

...but here is what I don't get, today we were bowling on a difficult condition, though I couldn't tell what it was. Even though the shot was used at this time, I managed to shoot a 255, which is a new high game for me, and at, in my opinion, the second most difficult this house so far. I ended getting some other scores like 160s and 180s in there, which are more along average, but far better than the previous stops I've encountered.

So my question to you is why is this, just all of a sudden I do good at a house with a hard shot, but at the easier ones, I just can't bowl worth crap? Thanks...

After checking your profile, I didn’t find anything out of the ordinary.  With an average of 166, you seem to have trouble covering your spares.  An extra open or split turns your 166 into a 140 game.  On the other hand you scored better in the “tougher” house.

Turning that 166 into a 180 game is simply going X-X-X instead of X, 9 open, X.  Those things happen.  Everything seems normal to me.

[Quote from profile]  I also specialize in different types of shots (Trick Shots) to adjust to lane conditions and spares.

Maybe use a more traditional method of shooting spares??

You simply bowled better in one house than you did in the other.  Perhaps the atmosphere suits you better.  It's more than likely not all that complicated.  Different people feel more comfortable in different situations.

Alright, first to DWilliamson:
It is most definently not the ball, and rarely is, the current arsenal I have now is really fine, though it may be missing a few things, it seems to be good.

To Sr: Just to talk about the trick shots, I don't use those very often, mainly for splits and 10-pins, but not for Much else especially my strike ball. Actually they really are good for splits, my conversion rate has gone up since I started doing this...

To Michigan: Hmm, well at Crown and King Pin (Two of the three), I have bowled great there every time I have been there before, really that shouldn't be the problem, as for the other place, I really don't like that place, the time I went before, there shot was rediculously hard...

To Greg: You know, about the benchmark ball, that is what I have been thinking, and my trauma ER was originally for that, but seems to be at an unrevivable stage, tried everything. My phase 2, to your surprise since you have never seen it, actually works very well for the control/readibility; it's controllable and very predictabgle, but really hates too much oil, works well on medium to med-dry conditions best. I was thinking about that atomic charge though, looks perfect...

And your second issue, actually for the last two months I have lowered my revs very significantly...now let me say, I use to really crank the ball up alot, I think partially becuase it looked cool and becuase thats what I had gotten used to it, and never though of changing it...until about september. And I have a few reasons for doing this:

1. When I was cranking the ball, accuracy was not really a problem, therefore I was not improving on it much, which would be a big problem later in life. And the reason for this is that in my experience and from watching others, cranking the ball and getting that big sexy hook does not require nearly as much accuracy as someone who only hooks it 5-8 boards. This is mainly why...

2. I also wanted to gently increase my speed, which I did, though like I said, not drastically, I feel this would help, though I can't remember why at this moment.

I hope that helps...
