Just suppose.......
« on: January 24, 2018, 10:33:07 PM »
That one of the Ball manufacturers was able to come up with a ball that could "virtually" guarantee a strike...would that be good or bad for the game?

It would be terrible.

Where can I buy one?
"If guns kill people, do pencils misspell words?"

"If you don't stand for our flag, then don't expect me to give a damn about your feelings."

People would find a way to not strike and then complain about how the pin was a half inch too far from the pap

I was really  being serious with the question. With all these chats about the modern game being too "easy", aided in large part by the modern reactive---so called cheater ball as it was sometimes referred to as back in the early-mid 90's----what if the technology advanced so much  so that the so called easy modern game became much much "easier" ...would that really be good for the game??

Depends.  If millennials could do it from their computer and we still called it bowling the game might explode again.
Kind of noob when made this account so take advice with grain of salt.

Would this theoretical ball be legal under current or future USBC and other bowling regulatory body's rules and regulations?  Bowling does not exist in a vacuum and the powers that be might not approve such a ball even though they approved prior advances in technology.

I do not see approval happening for a ball with technology that would guarantee strikes.

A ball company COULD guarantee that a release will strike.  Guarantee usually means that the company will let you return the ball if it doesn't perform as advertised (think warranty).

Don't see that business model working, but maybe the profit margin allows for refunds for anyone silly enough buy it and then actually process the return.

Pretty sure you couldn't build a ball the rec bowlers wouldn't figure a way to put in the channels.  Might need a bumper asterisk but even see my little one loft a ball between the bumpers and the channel before.

For most bowlers in most leagues…….. It would be buying lower performance equipment.  The stuff that requires less maintenance and fewer moves through the course of a league night.  Most cases the reaction is far better then the high performance stuff they try to make work.

Manufactures and proshops don't want you to know that because it's bad for business in the long run…. And profit margins.

Even more ironic:  that lower performance equipment would provide that "look" of more hook they're fishing for.  In reality it's not more hook per se.....it's the proper shape.  For me.....give me that higher RG and moderate diff and I'll adjust the cover to suit the conditions I face.

I shed a tear every time I see an OOB lane-shined never-been-cleaned Sure Lock thrown on a house shot knowing there's a better option out there.

If such a ball could be produced, sanctioned, and proven effective.

Bowlers would flock to buy it, regardless of price.

Because most bowlers (and golfers as well) are constantly trying to buy a game rather than develop one.

But it would be pretty much the end of the game as everyone would shoot the same score and complain that the other bowler was only there because of the technology.
