Need A Little Advice
« on: October 18, 2004, 03:40:33 AM »
Since taking the summer off I have gotten myself into a pretty bad slump.  I am now pulling the ball quite frequently.  On top of that I have also become a little lazy and instead of coming through the ball I tend to come around it, and this has caused my average to drop from 194 to a stuggling 170.  I guess I dont know 100% that these are the problems because if I knew what I was doing wrong I guess I wouldnt be asking for advice.  The one thing I do know is that nothing feels right and I cannot figure out what to do, I have tried to relax but 7 weeks into the season and nothing seems to help.  To give you an idea, I am a cranker with a very low backswing.  Ball speed is probably around 17-18 mph with high revs.  One other thing, I switched frome synthetics last year to wood this year.  Maybe its mental!  I just dont know!  Hopefully this is enough info for a few tips but if not let me know and I will do my best to answer any questions.  Thanks for taking the time to read this and any advise is greatly appreciated.

Thanks for the advise Phi and Wot, i will try anything at this point.  I do have a quick update on my specs, I had to call my pro shop guy and ask him cause I wasnt to sure.  Anyways, I have Med to High rev rate with med ball speed and 70 - 90 axis rotation.  Hopefully this helps for some more advise.  Again any input is greatly appreciated!!!

For me if you are pulling the ball inside, your timing is late.  The ball is arriving to the line way before your body and you are getting pulled forward.  Have you noticed if you feel like you are falling forward on the release?
A second possible problem is if you are pulling the ball too far away from your body.  This would cause your arm to cross in front of your body on release, which would make it inside your target.

When I am really slumping, put the hook away and get a plastic ball out.  Practice standing on the corner and just throwing a straight shot to the pocket.  Do this over and over until you are hitting your aim point consistently.  This will also give ya some good spare practice.  Then go back to the strike ball when you are happy with your targeting

D <~~~~ Used to be terrible wiffing 10 pins.  Now through much practice, can wiff any single pin spare at any time.
