just when you think you seen everything
« on: September 18, 2003, 07:32:43 AM »
My friend took the 6,8,9 out of a full rack.  Now, I've seen the 6, 9  out of a full rack many times, but this is a 1st.  We were bowling on a fresh strip and the backends were as strong as I've ever seen them.  I started out with 2 splits, and the crankers were throwing across the left side with the entire right side as room for error.  THere  balls were exploding the pins,  except for mine.  I had to pull out my blue hot flame, for control and felt inferior for not being able to exploit this monsterous backend hit, that others were.  I went 192 t0 there 240's 1st game.  But when it was all over, no one was even close to my 680,  Blue Hot Flame saves the day again.  Even though I switched to 15# and it is 16# it never leaves my bag.

Two years ago when playing in a singles scratch league
a bad first shot left the 3,6,10,spare so I adjusted and
shot for the spare with my strike ball as usual (Triton Elite)
we were both stunned when my shot took the 6 pin clean
out never touching either of the other two pins!!!

There was a coach in youth leagues a couple years ago that bowled with us on a fun day, and he left the 1-2-4-6-10 (took the 3 straight out).  So when his ball came back, he bet he could throw the exact same shot.  He did, using a Mass Chaos (a fairly even rolling ball), and didn't even brush the 1 or 6.

For fun once, me and some friends had the counter put up a bunch of weird pin leaves.  For instance the entire back row.  I don't care what anybody says, unless a pin is off spot, it is IMPOSSIBLE to make this by going between the 8 and 9.  What you have to do is go for one side or the other, and either hit a little heavy on the 10 or 7.  The 8 or 9 will then topple onto the pin beside it making a domino effect to take out the last one.  The 7-9-10 is slightly more difficult, but still makeable.  To make the lilly, you have to use a ball 10 pounds (possibly 12) or lighter and hook it so that you catch the pin on the opposite side of the hand you're using.  Right handed, you want to hit the 5 on the left side, kicking it into the 10, while a really heavy slow roll deflects the ball straight into the 7.

HAH!  I don't know ANYBODY now!

Being in adult leagues teaches you many things.

1.  You're not on top anymore, but there are a lot more people that suck worse than you do now.

2.  The myth about the youths having an easier shot is NOT TRUE.  I'd have an entire ring collection if it was.

3.  Drunk adults are a lot funnier than drunk youths.

In the Doubles event of a tournament in March, one of the guys in our cross left a 1-2-4-6-7-10.  His partner then steps up on the other lane and proceeds to leave a 2-4-5-8-10.  I've seen those two spares left before, but never on consecutive shots by teammates.

I've seen people shoot tween the 3-10 a few times.

I did that once in a World Team Challenge qualifier.  Bit of trivia:  Wayne Webb was our anchor for that tournament, and Ernie Schlegel was the anchor of the team we crossed with that game.  My claim to fame...
