Short flat oiled synthetic house with FLYING backends?

I am a bit lost on my Thursday night league, can't really figure out if I want to play up the boards or a slight belly.  The only downside to this is, there's no room for push or pull error.  It will jump for the beak when tugged and hang out to dry when pushed.

Being accurate isn't a problem, it's the over under I get from my equipment that is.  The first night I used a solid high load particle that worked decently until the middle of the second game when carrydown set in.  At that point it made swinging a fw boards a scary option.  

Two weeks ago I shot straight up the boards using my Ultra Hot and it worked well with no problem.

Last night the backends, believe it or not were even jumpier than before.  There even seemed to be a hold area outside of ten.  Playing up the boards with what I brought caused over under all night.

My question is, and I'm getting mixed info about this, what type of ball would work better on that type of condition?

I was told go with a solid particle with a control drill to kill some of those wild backends down.  I was also told go with a pearl or polished ball with a big backend to begin with, so I didn't have to finesse the ball down the lane.

What do you guys suggest?

(P.S. after some of the more recent verbal beatings as of late, don't hurt me)

It worked well the second game only, I also suspect it will work well the first game too.  The third game it checked up a hair early at hit the beak if I played straight up 11, but, playing a belly ten to seven the ball just won't recover to the pocket.  Pointing the ball from outside the ten sends it through the nose also.

Short oil with flying backends sounds like a good candidate for pearl urethane, at least for the first game.  The urethane will create the carydown situation that then prompts you to go with something a touch stronger...that will allow you then to swing the ball a little bit because you will have created some hold area.  

For me, the above would mean starting with the Gold Grenade and then switching to a weak-drill Sonic X.

Michelle,

It is definitely possible to use my Sonic Solid for at least two games, but when carrydown sets in the Solid is over undering the rest of the night.  It's possible to go with the Sonic Pearl which is drilled stronger than my Solid.

If the Sonic Pearl isn't strong enough I have another strongly drilled pearl ball to use for a bigger backend through the carrydown.  Thanks for your suggestions so far, I will try them next week.

If anyone else wants to chip in, I'll be glad to hear it.

When I come across this type of condition I do the following.

1)throw something with a medium to medium high rg with a little surface,sheen or 800 grit and a good rev leverage to get the ball to release a little before the end of oil.

2)Try to stay behind the ball for a bit more controle and consistancy.

3)Try to stay on the same line as long as possible by changing hand and finger positions as needed.

You're gonna kill me..............I don't own a urethane..... I never needed one until now I guess.  

I'll go with these suggestions and see what happens next.

Plus40,

I never really considered the drying heads issue until now.  The oil is so flat there, it seems not to be dissapating.  It's also possible my teammates wore a track into the lane and I never picked up on it which is my own freaking fault.  (I'm playing a few boards outside of there line.)  That would pretty much explain why I had more oil as well.  No one else on the pair was playing way out there.  I will practice using all the suggestions offered from the thread.

P.S Bones,

I remember I do own a urethane ball, the Amulet Glow, and I've been meaning to get it redrilled for the longest time now.  I better make it a priority to do so.

Not to get off topic but in a sense Dragon I agree with you.  My reasons however are the same reasons as why a preteen may buy comic books.  They could be interested in the cover only, the story it tells, the character(s), etc etc.  I find bowling balls to be similar to another person's collectible.  I also read them and study them for my own personal referrences.

(P.S......I'm travelling back in time when I couldn't buy what I want because I was either too young or didn't have money......you know how it goes.)

The two things I would consider would be a weak solid shell ball with some surface or a urethane ball.  You want something to get through the heads, but something that isn't saving energy for a big snap.

A_P_K,

I got a Brunswick Blue Sanded Attack Zone, (solid urethane), 15 lb Used, that I haven't used for a long while, if you'd like ot try it. It isn't sanded much any more of course. It's a plain 3 piece core, but it hit very nicely many times. Last used it the previous Summer, 2002. If it works, then you can always buy a new expensive urethane, if it suits your purposes. Also have a 15 lb Blue pearl Hammer, used, that I can't use any more. You'd only have to redrill the thumb for your span and pitch.
