Have you ever shot????????
« on: September 28, 2006, 11:47:35 PM »
I wondered what your thoughts would be on this. I bowled last Thursday  and shot 740 in a house where I only had 15 games. My average went up around 10 pins and we won 6 out of 8 points. Last night the ball I used wasn't working the same so I changed, and after 3 opens I finished with 194 and we lost by 2 pins.

It comes to the 3rd game and in the tenth frame and we are down 2 pins and I say I guess we wont loss this one by 2 pins, and the captain says, yeah we had 2 guys open  in 10th frame the first game, or you can look at this way, You meaning me shot 20 under my average and that might be the reason we lost.

I have been on a lot of teams in my time, but never had anyone come right out and say anything like that. I am carrying 212 as of now on this team, and the other highest  is 164. You have any thoughts on this?

If your teammate didn't shoot 300, he bears some of the responsibility for losing 2 pins somewhere along the line.

If you hit above your average every game, it wouldn't be YOUR AVERAGE, would it?

I suppose the Capain didn't say "Thanks for carrying us, and getting us the points." did he?

To me, that just shows a lack of class on the Captain.

I have never bowled on a team where members of the team blamed the others for losing games, and I have never blamed someone other than myself for losing games.  "You win as a team and you lose as a team", has always been my atitude when bowling,  I have won games where I bowled poorly in the 120's , and have lost games when I bowled lights out, most recently with a 266.  I thanked the team for carrying me on the wins, and did not dog any other bowler when we lost.  Each of the bowlers knows what he/she did. I, nor anyone else on the team needs to remind them, they will feel bad enough.  All we ask of each other is to bowl with an honest effort and support our teammates.

If the captain had told me what he said to you, it would have made for quite a scene after the session with me telling him exactly where he could shove his bowling balls, and I would've gladly done it for him.

No one person ever loses a team game.  It takes a combined effort, just like winning.

I agree with the we win as a team, we lose a team philosophy.  The only time a team member can blame anyone else for losing a game is if they shot 300.  I had a similar situation happen a few years back.  We were bowling a team, and I needed the first hit in the tenth for us to win the game.  Mind you I was working on a six bagger, with my only none strike being a ten pin in the 3rd frame that I converted.  I proceed to shred the hole, and stuff a solid 8 pin.  I picked it up and struck for 258.  Well the team captain was absolutely livid and blamed me for losing the game.  Saying that if I struck on that ball, we would have won.  My average was like 235, so I beat my average anyway.  His was like 220, and he shot something like 153, yet he blamed me for losing.  Go figure.

Are you sure he wasn't just ribbing you.  On one of my teams we rail on each other all the time.  We're not being serious, but we'll give each other crap like that.

A winner is you.

I had to back off the lanes and ask him what he said, and he repeated if I hadn't shot 20 under. I do have to clarify this, I was a last minute pickup on this team and they are not as serious bowling as I am. This is a handicap league and as a team we are carrying about 800 team average and I have 212 of that. The team captain said the first night if I was a serious bowler I might be better with another team. Gee you think?

I usually end up blaming myself if we lose. Could have spared that or struck on that ball or strung a few together. But I have never blamed another bowler for what we did or did not do. I agree, YOU WIN TOGETHER AND LOSE TOGETHER.

I usually blame myself for a loss as well.
Except for the one time when a guy went gutter-gutter in the second frame after a strike in the first. THAT loss was his fault!LOL!
