Kegel Challenge Pattern League
« on: August 12, 2015, 10:36:06 AM »
I bowled in a kegel challenge league this year where the patterns change every two weeks. We also have a chance to practice on the shots the night before. I hear all the time on here and other message boards and folks around the centers that your sport shot league average should be 20 pins lower than your standard league average. Let me tell you all something that say or believe this that haven't bowled on one of these sport leagues, YOU ARE DEAD WRONG!!!!!!!!!!! Its probably closer to 30-40 pins lower than you standard league average. For me it was about 40 pins different. I averaged 180 in this Kegel League. These leagues are tough and worth the challenge!!! It magnifies your mistakes to a whole new level, and puts a huge emphasis on spare making. There are a few great bowlers in this league that average 235-240's on standard leagues and barely hit the 200 avg mark. These leagues are tough, and I for one enjoyed the challenge this season.

That's because your ego isn't weak and you have the correct mindset (and drive to get better).  I'm roughly 195ish and I have fought like hell to get there.

ive been busting my ass the last few weeks. practiced as much as i could and even paid for some lessons from the house pro. My friends I bowl with have been a huge help as well.Huge mind opener in my opinion. Well worth the 20 bucks!!!! I just wish alot of other people in some of my leagues would stop bitching about the high scoring and put some extra effort into it i guess........

I've also read those numbers and laughed. USBC has a conversion chart for Sport averages, it's a complete joke. You are correct that the average bowler will take a much larger hit than 20 pins. I'm usually off 20-25, but that's only because I bowl a Sport league year round. In the beginning, it was in the 40+ range.

We have a few new bowlers join our PBA league each season, usually 220+ house shot guys who leave with their tail tucked between their legs with a 160ish sport average.

this was my second time bowling this league during the summer. first year I was barely 175........the key to being successful is learning from your mistakes.

The conversion charts are a joke, but they are a joke in both directions.  Experienced tournament bowlers who have built their games around playing more direct, can often average nearly as high on a sport pattern as on some house shots.  I haven't been able to average within 10 pins on a house shot of what the conversion tables says I should based on my sport league average.

Last sport league I was in several years ago, I finished with the same average as with my winter league THS average.

I have also averaged as high in a sport league as I did on a THS in the same house a couple of times.  It usually happens on house shots where I just don't carry very well because the pattern transition forces me to play much more out and back than I want to.
